Could you imagine if he coaches another 20 years?

Bama Fatigue would drain all the enjoyment out of CFB. Saban wants to go out on top. He's had an unprecedented run, but all runs come to an end. I think he'll decide to retire once he sees a dip ahead. It would be sweet if UT winning TSIO foreshadowed a power shift.

I hope we continue to stay healthy and improve, but the reality is that I think we will struggle mightily to win a SEC game this season. The second half of the schedule is a long ways off (obviously for both our opponents and us), but watching Vandy driving in a position to score and win the game at South Bend with a minute left against the #8 team, and with what KY and Mizz looking improved, I just don't think we have the horses this year...
I think our staff is definitely the answer this program needed, and yes, we will eventually get the talent we need to turn the corner, but I just don't think we have the depth and talent level this season. Butch did leave us a bunch of poorly coached, underdeveloped athletes that can still be coached up and be a force, but it won't be this season. Sure there are plenty of bright spots and some really good individual talent, just not enough collectively to get us over the hump in '18... we just need to grind this season, stay as healthy as possible, continue to grow and improve each game, and hope we can still get some good, solid, upgraded talent to sign with us in this next class.

I agree. I am just watching to see the improvement. I don’t really care so much if we win or lose.

I think next year will be tough too. Trust the process.

I don't think the Bama dynasty ends with Saban' s retirement. It's more about the system he has in place.

I agree that Bama won't fall apart. But Saban's a key driver. IDT Dabo or Pruitt could match Saban's success. With Saban gone, I think we'll see more parity at the top. It's nice to think UT could get back to that level... but it's a long way up from rock bottom.

I really don’t think this run will end as long as Saban is there, even after he leaves too.

I’ve always said it isn’t just Saban who is really really good. It’s that program. The entire state, even the state political system, is behind it. It’s a state treasure. When they have a good coach it is just magnified.

Look at the late 90’s and early 00’s when they were on sanctions and HAD to play by the same rules every one else does. They were just like every other program. But once they can start throwing their “resources” behind it again they get good. Even a coach like Mike Shula could win 10 games there. Putting a coach like Saban behind those resources and support will get you what we see over the last decade. It’s simply going to take sanctions or a ridiculously bad coach to slow it down. I don’t see either happening.

yeah, it will still be a work in progress next season unfortunately, but our O line and secondary will definitely be improved ...

While I think Saban is obviously a great coach, I think his success now is more about out talenting everyone in college football. They have a $ystem in place that insures they get the best of the best. Then when they get them in their focus is 90% football and 10% college. They develop them NFL style. I don't think that changes with a change at the top. Maybe they drop off a bit but I don't see it. Heck, you and I could take it over and probably be successful as long as we didn't meddle with the system.

This may be his strongest team yet. There is no dip in sight

345 yards on the ground yesterday. Not too damn bad boys. Left about 21 points off the board due to mistakes/penalties. All of these issues are very fixable. Negative plays were overall much less as well this week. Overall, you have to look at this game as a positive after taking a big picture look.

Everybody is hung up on the score. We dominated them.

One thing I like about our offense is it's clear this staff believes in the players over plays deal. When they need a play they are going to certain players. 3rd down they go to Callaway. Deep ball Callaway or Palmer. Pruitt said we need JJ more involved and we got him the ball more. Just need OL to get consistent. Sometimes they look good and others they just miss. Crazy part is seems like our backup lineman open up bigger holes

HOT AND NOT
HOT
Ty Chandler:
After missing Week 2 because of a concussion, Chandler had 12 carries for 158 yards, including the 81-yard touchdown — which was the 7th longest in school history. Chandler averaged 13.2 yards a carry on Saturday. The sophomore showed a quick burst and was the best playmaker for the offense.
Alexis Johnson: The junior college transfer is playing his best football right now. He had five tackles and a quarterback hurry. Through three games, Johnson has 13 tackles. In his first two seasons with the Vols Johnson had 14 career tackles. If Tennessee is going win next week and in the SEC, Johnson must continue to improve and be productive.
Jarrett Gaurantano: Tennessee hasn't exactly turned Gaurantano loose, but the New Jersey native continues to play/manage the game well. Gaurantano was 12 of 16 for 168 yards and a touchdown. On the year, Gaurantano is completing 72 percent of his throws for 494 yards, 2 touchdowns and no interceptions.
Holeintheroof: Nothing really needs to be said here other than this guy is just a really good poster. Like, really good.
The kickers:
It was unknown going into the season how well Tennessee would be in the kicking game. The return game hasn't been much, but the kickers have been good all year. Saturday was no exception. Brent Cimaglia was good from 38 yards. Joe Doyle had six punts and pinned UTEP inside the 20-yard line four times. Paxton Brooks had four touchbacks in five kickoffs.

NOT
Unforced errors:
Jeremy Banks fumbled at the one. Tennessee’s first redzone trip resulted in two penalties and a field goal, as a touchdown was called back. Marquez Callaway fumbled a punt. Banks had another fumble he recovered. Overall, the Vols were penalized eigjr times for 65 yards, including two delay of game penalties. Tennessee just didn't play very clean.
Third down offense: Tennessee struggled moving the chains, as they converted just 4 of 12 third down tries. Of the 13 attempts, seven of them were 3rd and long (6 yards or more).
GAMEBALL
Jeremy Pruitt's defense: There's no doubt that UTEP's offense is not very good. But when you shut a team out, hold them to seven first downs, force seven 3-and-out's, and limit them to 49 yards in the second half the defense earns a gameball.
Pruitt's defense still has some issues. They still need more out of the defensive front and need more production from the outside linebacker spot, but it appears they are playing/reacting faster and grasping the defensive scheme better. In other words they are improving.
