Middle of the field is usually second or third progression. JG is very slow with his progressions because he wants to give the ball to Callaway or Palmer. Middle is usually wide open so he needs to learn to get through his progressions faster. Luckily that something that is teachable.A question for you Xs & Os guys...Why are we not attacking the middle of the field in the passing more? This is not a play calling criticism disguised as a passive/agressive query, I figure it has to do with protection problems due to missed assignment/confusion in the interior Ol positions because of the stunting and stemming being done. It looks like attacking the middle would loosen up the ground game between the tackles by giving the LBs and safties something to worry about?

I’m thinking the main issue is the conversion from zone to man blocking schemes. Personally, zone makes more sense to me in that your assignment doesn’t change depending on a DL shift or blitz: block the man in front of you.Good opinions. Thanks for posting.
I thought the same thing about the run game. I expected us to demolish ETSU with our backs. Not so much. UTEP needs to be a statement game for our RBs and line. If they can do that, it'll help the passing game as well.

He might just be too worried about making a mistake. If he just goes out and plays does minimal thinking he could tear defenses apart. With his arm, I don't think he's very mobile. He seems slow in his drops like he is counting steps. Just get back there. I'd like to get to point where he is just naturally playing and moving. Still confused as to why he is so slow moving out of pocket. Should be faster but looks slow. When he has a nice pocket he will pick you apart though
Can you not call a play wherein a WR, TE or RB going across, or down the middle is the primary?Middle of the field is usually second or third progression. Thought that was a symptom of Butch. Hopefully Helton can loosen him up a bit. On the other side of the coin he doesn't turn the ball over.He might just be too worried about making a mistake.
