lol. Nike delivered the message, and chose the message...........
I mean I guess they could have used a pic of him with someone narrating but that would feel like exploitation imo. The message of the ad was incredibly positive. And had nothing to do with that particular kind of sacrifice. It was about the sacrifice elite athletes make in pursuit of their dreams. So yes pat Tillman sacrificed more than anyone in the ad, but that imagery would only confuse the message they were trying to convey. Maybe there were other athletes that who's narration would be more acceptable to some but I disagree that pat Tillman imagery would be better for portraying the intended message.

His wife disagrees with you.

I respectfully disagree. His wife didn't want her husband to be politicized; however, if Nike approached her about using her husband's story as part of an ad I think she would have absolutely agreed. From her own words...

As a football player and soldier Pat inspired countless Americans to unify. It is my hope that his memory should always remind people that we must come together. Pat’s service, along with that of every man and woman’s service, should never be politicized in a way that divides us. We are too great of a country for that.

This would have been a great message for Nike to embrace as part of their campaign... a message of unity instead of using a spokesman that is controversial.

great let's keep exploiting a dead man to attack CK

I am not using Tillman to attack CK. If that's how you're taking it, then it's because that's what you're wanting to see. Nike's ad is about encouragement, sacrifice, inspiration, and achievement among other things. I'm not trying to politicize anything. All I'm saying is that Tillman represents all of those criteria much better than CK, and I think most would agree.

I don't have anything personal against CK. I think he was a decent athlete; but I don't honestly see where he has sacrificed much of anything. I don't care if he stands or kneels... it doesn't bother me in the least. Perhaps the only negative I would have of CK is I don't agree with his stance of referring to all police officers as pigs. Most LEO's have given and sacrificed more than CK ever will.

oh, i agree. don't take my commentary too serioiusly. i'm just not a huge fan of CK. and i think overall, it's just a cheap move. and while the overall tenor of the ad is regarding the athletic sacrafice to pursue your dreams, when you insert CK in that and he's the one talking about sacrafice...

well, it doesn't take a rocket scentitist to distinguish the athletic scarafice from the non athletic sacrafice "for what you believe in"...bottom line, they knew what they were doing, and they at least opened the door to it being a "political statement" just by having him in the ad.

This is why I quit buying their shoes over 15 years ago.

I bought one pair of Nike tennis shoes in my lifetime and they fell apart after one summer's use. Granted, I was extremely hard on tennis shoes at the time, but I got far, far more mileage out of $20 knockoffs from Payless that went through the same rough treatment the Nikes did.

Nike dgaf about Kaep’s protest, police brutality, Donald Trump, equality or anything else you want to list.

They care about making more money and they saw this as an opportunity to use CK’s protest to make more coin. Really is as simple as that.

no sht, they have 8 year olds making shoelaces in Bangladesh for 30 cents a day

but jeez what a logical jump you've made to oversimplify a nuanced discussion with "Nike wants more money derpderp"

It’s not a nuanced discussion for Nike.

It’s a nuanced discussion for individuals like you.

Yep. Nike has been the #1 story going on a week now. It took over the week 1 NFL storyline.

Timing was impeccable to make the splash they desired.

why is this about CK vs PT?
What did Kaepernick really “sacrifice”? His career was on the downturn and he started this protest. If he had been the same player that propelled the Niners to the SB and NFC Championship Game in back to back seasons? He opted out of his contract and subsequently isn’t garnering backup money but is litigating to get starters money in damages and he had this Nike contract as a parachute all along. Pat Tillman had worked his way up to a NFL starter and up and dropped it all to volunteer to go to war...only to be killed in a friendly fire snafu. He’d reject using his name to hawk hoof covers but he SACRIFICED.

When kids started killing other kids to get $200 shoes that cost $5 to make, I boycotted for over 10 years. Was a personal thing and I never begrudged anyone who sported Nike gear. Didn’t dent their bottom line and I’ll wear the stuff...good product imo.

this. if you wanna have a conversation about "sacrafice for what you believe", i doubt seriously you can relaly include CK in that conversation. he didn't "volunteer" to give up his career for what he believed in.

it just kind of happened..........lol.

Did he not sacrifice while growing up to achieve his goal of playing in the nfl? Which is the overall message of the ad. They also didn't show any clips of him playing or mention him sacrificing. He's narrating. People who can't see past the person narrating are missing some pretty incredible stories imo.

Edit: there is no point in the ad where the message is about sacrificing anyone's career.

They said sacrifice everything right when his face was the only one shown. Pretty clear.

And I can’t say I agreee that sacrifice is the correct word to use regarding CK. He made 17 mill and took a knee. Kept all his millions. He’s not mother Theresa

The reason I don’t buy Nike shoes is because they care more about quantity than quality. It definitely shows up in their product. Nike is basically Walmart quality with fantastic advertising.

there is only because CK is the guy providing the narration. that he's the main guy in the add, brings that to the table.
