Using that Weis reference as the crux of your argument, why did Notre Dame sign him to a mega contract extension a year or so in? Because he came out the stocks blazing. Even your failures have their narratives.
Did he get fired? How bout da?

We’ll get back to successful and my gut tells me Pruitt will be the one to do it. But to 90’s levels? Very unlikely. It was such a peak for a program that has historically been very good. But to average 10 wins a season, and to go on a 45-5 run is not common. That shouldn’t be the expectation.
LSU, Auburn, Georgia, Florida and A&M along with of course Alabama make this league way too difficult to have a run like that. We had to compete with Florida back then and that was about it. Realistic expectations would be to win 9 and 10 on the regular, with a run at a conference title every 3-5 years IMO.

There are plenty. I was just naming off the top of my head. Head coaching experience is a factor whether you or Hank want to admit it. If I'm not mistaken Coach Fulmer thought it was important too before he started his search.

Edit: plus, that's not ironic at all. That backs up my point even further. To have much of a chance at all you need to inherit an established program that you've been at. 😊
Like Kevin Steele? Dear Jehovah! Please never make decisions for my school!

Considering Fulmer hired coach Pruitt, it must not have been too awfully important to him.

We also keep straying further and further away from your original point. Now you’ve entered a disclaimer dealing with guys who have no experience but coached at the school beforehand. If you tweak it enough we’ll probably come to an agreement here shortly. :)

Or maybe he couldn't find a head coach he could hire that he liked.

This was awlays in context with the Tennessee job. You and Hank took it elsewhere, not I.

I might be the biggest pumper around here but if y’all remember I said prior to last year if Butch didn’t win the east it was time for a new coach. He had plenty of time. Too much. Just wanted to remind you guys. Anyone questioning Pruitt after one game is being ridiculous.
