Great WVa game recap from Simonton

The stresses about Helton’s playcalling are going very overlooked. That ultimately may be what did us in the most. Maybe we can chalk it up to first game jitters, but he promised us an aggressive offense and didn’t even remotely deliver on that (in a game where we HAD to be aggressive on offense to win)

I've seen a lot of people complaining that we didn't throw deep balls, but the QB has to have time to throw deep balls. Time was a luxury JG had little of yesterday.

Aside d from those WR quick pops, Helton called a good game. Hate those plays.

Don't know, but what check off latitude does JG have and how often did he do it?

It's because he saw no help from the OL and the oncoming pass rush JG was getting, thinking "welp....no deep balls today."
Thats not first game jitters. He saw the reality of how our OL stacks up.

Jesus, you do realize this is his first game as a full time OC right?

Simonton's criticism of playcalling is off-base IMO. The playcalling was dictated to a great degree by the O-line play, which was mediocre even during the best of times during the game. We got very little push in the run-game. Moreover, WV's DBs were playing off-ball pretty deep (as he himself notes), as they know that guys like Jennings and Callaway are big-play threats.

Holgorsen was pretty smart in realizing that our WRs have "home run" potential and trying to limit that. We have to take advantage by burning them on the short- and intermediate- throws more and run down their throat. We had some success doing that, but O-line play limited us to a great degree.

Unfortunately, the reality is that our offense is going to be held back until we see improvement on the OL.

This article should leave no more questions. Its like many of us have been saying. This team doesnt have much talent. Many of the high 4 and 5* guys that Botch put here are playing at a 2* level. Why? Well because Botch and his staffs inability to properly coach. Jones left this team in much worse shape than Kiffin or Dooley.

Now Pruitt is facing the daunting task of rebuilding a roster thats full of untalented and undisciplined players.

Simonton must grade on the curve, because he didn't have any group grade a F and from my seat LB's, Oline, Dline, DB's all should receive an F
JG B+
RB's. B
SpT C
Rec C
No sugar coating please

The only thing I agree with is Helton should’ve kept calling that 7-8 yd pop to Marquis till they stopped it

Jesse laying the lumber. Don't disagree with it. Still tough to take it all in.

I agree with this. However as the article pointed out we were very successful with the short passes to Calloway. Why go away from that? He's supposed to be one of our playmakers. Get the ball in the hands of your playmakers.

Haha yeah it is. I know it's corny but some of us fans need to improve at hearing the negatives of our team lol.
