I think I have figured out why Pruitt and this staff have done such a good job up to this point.

Most first time head coaches make some learning on the job mistakes. Heck, some don’t even know what group to be around for practice.

But not Pruitt - he has been comfortable from Day 1. He knew exactly what he wanted and started plowing forward.

Why?

He isn’t a first time head coach. I think his experience as high school coach is really an advantage. He knows how to coach. He isn’t the CEO type. He is a down in the trenches with you type of coach.

And those are also the type of assistant coaches he hired.

I haven’t been this excited for UT football in a long while - there is something new, exciting to be a part of.

We all have hope that this is it. That he is the right guy.

No one else understands except us.

But our climb back to the top starts tomorrow and it sure is hell isnt starting brick by brick.

When you do your research on him, the staff, and then watch how the program develops - this is exactly how it appears. It's been more than a decade since I could just sit back and not be all that concerned. There will be bumps in the road, there always are. But I am confident this HC/staff will figure out how to work around them because of the very attributes you posted. Going to just enjoy watching the game no matter how it turns out. The results will tell all of us what they need to improve and where the roster is mentally. The physical part does not concern me. There's enough talent and it is much stronger/faster than last season. I want to see how they have embraced the new system, schemes, techniques, etc.

Agree with all that, I would add one more thing as well. He grew up from a very young age watching his dad coach HS. Studying film, going to practice, probably "helping" as a young boy. He has been immersed in coaching his whole life. I forget who made that point, maybe Price or one of the VQ guys the other day, but they said that's why they don't necessarily expect him to make all the normal first time head coaching mistakes like bad time management and stuff like that. He's seen that stuff through his dad's eyes since he was probably 4 or 5 years old. It comes natural.

I read a couple of articles about his offensive mind, his offense and how cutting edge it was I was pretty excited at the thought of him possibly coming to Rocky Top. I could eat little crow on this if we see Tyson Helton deploy a similar offense but I don't believe that will be the case and we have a national championship DC calling the defense. I think we wound up with a much better situation.

eh, i think Brohm is a good coach. there were some tough breaks in that game last night, and i didn't think the officiating was very good overall.

i also don't think Purdue has very many good players aside from that running back....he's pretty darn good.

i will say this, when Purdue scored the TD get it to 31-24, they were lined up on the 1 or 2, and in a shot gun spread formation.

i cringed a little at the thought of that ever being a possibilty again in KNO.

i think this probably has more to do with it than anything else. technically it's his first day. but really, it's not. i'll admit, i'll be surprised if he makes a bunch of really noticeable sideline errors.

i will say that if there is a concern on my part, regarding sideline errors specifically with personnel or substitutions etc...i'm more inclined to lean toward the two 1st time coordinators making those kinds of mistakes, and Pruitt ripping them a new one. lol..

I was high on Brohm - and still am - but I do agree with your sentiment here. I’m really jonesing for a power run game and hopefully that’s what we get with Helton. I don’t think we know for sure though. They’ve said they want to establish the run but Helton’s offense is built probably 60% on Brohm concepts.

5 years ago, only the hardcore Cubs fan existed. Now, everywhere I turn there are Cubs fans. Maybe they were always around but just stayed in their proper place, but they are becoming awfully big for their britches and there are a bunch of them. They are popping up evvvvvvverywhere.

didn't even think about that. i think i'm fine with whatever we do, so long as the reasoning is sound.

let's face it, we did it the way we did it here becasue butch's system was infalible and there was never any reason to do anything any differently. :) no matter what the defense presented, or what match ups were more advantageous.

red sox fans were worse when they finally got their WS vicotry. i'll give cubs fans a break. they really have sucked for a very long time, and have more htan their fair share of kicks in the nuts....

sox fans....they just were annoying. cubs fans knew they were the loveable losers, and i think were genuinely excited about what they accomplished of late. sox fans, it felt more like "we deserved this". only thing i will say about the red sox, is that alcs come back against the yankees was epic. i'll give them that. it was more impressive, imo, than any WS victory they've had.

All I care about is not being married to some infallible system and being wise enough to know when to spread the field and when to impose our will with brute force.

agreed. and i think the change in bocking schemes dictates a lot of that going forward....we'll see. but yeah, as long as what we're doing is match up based, i don't really care. i'm not opposed to shot gun on the 1, if that's actually the best play against that particular defense, or there's a match up that says that's what should be done.

when butch did it, it always felt like we were trying to "trick" our way to the result vs. having a defined purposed for running the play we ran.......
