What the heck are you talking about? AJ was a good LB but he wasn't anywhere even close to great until his last season. Grab tackling a lot of guys 5 yards past the LoS or first down marker didn't impress me much. His job was supposed to be to hit them in the hole and stop them.
I think he was doing a lot better at that his last season. It may have been bad coaching though that nade him that way through most in his career at UT. He certainly had the talent to play more aggresively. He showed that a lot in his last season. I just don't think a few games that year are enough to elevate him to "greathood" status...at least to me.
I think the better question is: what the heck are YOU talking about?
The OP stated JJ would be the greatest LB since Al. Mayo was then mentioned, along with Burnett. I then said AJ. Someone then posted AJ was underrated, and I responded, 'very'.
You then came barrelling in, stating AJ couldn't hold Al's water, and questioning whether or not Im old enough to have seen Al play, or if I have forgotten when he played.
Do I think AJ is greater than Al, that's crazy to even suggest such a thing. Do I think AJ was the last great LB we've had, absolutely!; no offense at all to JRM (injuries).
AJ must have been doing something right, "hitting them in the hole" and such...the man had over 400 tackles in his career; and can you imagine him being coached by Sherrer or Rumph?!?!
Now, I hope OP is right, and JJ IS the greatest since Al; but, I'll take another Mayo or Burnett or AJ, and be ecstatic!
