Because what I care about is beating teams with comparable or less talent. And losing to multiple teams that we've outrecruited and who put less talent on the field is something that needs to stop. The team is healthy, we've recruited the talent and we've hired a top-drawer staff. Time to play like it.
It takes time to get stuff straight though. I don't think it happens over a 9 month period. Didn't happen for Saban or Smart in their first years, and they both had more talent IMO.

You need to get a grip with some of this bull doo doo you're spewing. Peyton Manning is one of the top 5 quarterbacks to ever play. Joe Namath isn't. Never said otherwise. All this negativity bull hockey that folks say I spew isn't legit. Let's hear one negative thing I've said that isn't true. Sargent tried to take me earlier today and he crapped his pants attempting to do so. Evidently it goes unnoticed, but I've been extremely positive about the direction I think the program is going.
Well if you crapped your pants I guess you would just leave there too huh.

I think this would be a bad scenario. No coach worth a darn would keep his backup on the bench during blowouts. So if Chryst never sees the field it's because we can't get a big lead even over our gimmies.

I would hope shrout would get some clock if that’s the case. Chryst only needs to play if he’s starting.

No, I've said all along that I think 7-5 is reasonable, based on our schedule and talent, assuming we remain healthy.

You seem to place great stock in Vegas odds and media projections. So if the Basketvols, projected to finish #13 in the SEC last year, had finished a lofty #12, would you have considered that overachieving? Because someone who uses media projections as a measuring stick certainly would.

I guess I’m getting confused on your wording of 6-6 being thoroughly disgusted and 7-5 being reasonable.

Say we doink a FG off the left upright at the end of the SCjr game. If he makes the kick it’s a reasonable season at 7-5 but 6-6 is all of the sudden a failure? I just don’t get that at all

We could be a much better team and stillonly win 7.

For the record, I think we will be a much better football team. I just think expecting us to beat every team we “out talent” on paper this year is a bit much. Development hasn’t been there for our guys and it takes longer than 9 months to catch up imo
Maybe. But I don't look at it as making a jump from 4 wins. We had been a 9 win team with bad coaching the 2 previous years and had the talent to win at least 7 or 8 last year even with bad coaching if not for an absurd amount of injuries and then waiting too long to fire butch creating even more issues at the end. So I don't think getting to 7 is a jump at all. And I don't really think 9 is a big jump. That's not to say I don't see 6 as a possibility. I get the questions about the new staff and transitions of both offensive and defensive systems. And the needed cultural change and s&c development. I just don't assume that all the answers to those questions will be negative. I think it is very possible that we will see major improvements in all those areas. And if we continue to have a little better luck with injuries we can really make strides and maybe win some that many don't think we should. I think even if we have no improvement other than not leading the nation in injuries we can get to 6 wins.

Can someone please help me out?
How do I bring an old post, from a different thread, into this thread?
You can use the quote option. Quote the post in the other thread, go to the thread you want it in, and hit the insert quotes button below the compose box.

Don't see where I've been "smacked down" by anyone. You should be used to it yourself however since I've made a habit of taking you to task on here. Bottom line here is, I'm not excited about this commit. People then proceed to attack because I don't want to pretend like this kid is Joe Willy Namath.
This was posted in the Maurer thread last month. After ripping Maurer, like he has done from the beginning, ole Chief can't pretend our QB commit is the next...."Joe Willy Namath"?!?!
I may be completely wrong...but, VolNation...Vol fans...which of you think of Joe Namath before Peyton Manning, or any other of our great QB's, when talking about, not only the next great QB, but the next great Vol QB?
Another question: which of you know a TRUE Vol fan that would think this way...to think of a Bammer, over ANY Vol?
To break it down...what TRUE Vol fan, be it a "realist" or whatever, thinks of Joe Namath before Peyton Manning?
Again, my way of thinking may be wrong, but...you tell me.

So where in that post did I say Joe Namath was greater than P Manning? You're reaching here brother man. I might add that I didn't rip Maurer, just said I wasn't fired up about the commitment, and questioned why everyone was so fired up about it. Sue me.

Three OOC cupcakes, UK and Vandy is 5 wins. Win 2/4 out of WVU, UF, SCAR and Mizzou-- that's 7. Lose 3/4 and we're continuing to lose winnable toss-up games more than half the time. A team needs to find ways to win more toss-ups than it loses. I think it's reasonable to expect this team to at least go 50/50 on toss-ups with the resources we've invested and the players we have. Win 3/4 and we're on the upside.

I get that you have a different viewpoint, based on different criteria, and that's cool.
