2018 Midterm Election Thread

You could tell by the way it rolled off his lips it was a phrase that he had planned to use and was just waiting for the right moment to drop.

Exactly right.

And what he is doing is a page from the Trump playbook. He LOVES the criticism he is getting for this because it keeps it in the news. He knows his base is voting for him, anyway. But saying this and getting bashed is free advertising to the base to make sure they come out to vote to keep the black guy from winning, plus its free advertising to remind ill informed voters that Gillum is black.

The GOP in Florida will stay silent because it means voter turnout, which they need in the mid-terms. Its really a pretty disgusting ploy.

This is why, as badly as Trump acts, his support remains strong. The opposition is bat**** crazy saying crap like this.

I have an issue with what seems like now (certain groups of society) trying to dictate what words a race can say. This tit for tat faux outrage just divides us even further.

Do a few searches for the definition of "monkey up." This is the only one I found (from the dictionary of computing of all places): monkey up | Definition of monkey up by Webster's Online Dictionary. Obviously not applicable here.

Plenty of ways to say mess something up. Yet running against a black candidate he chose to use --and quite obviously so -- a phrase that includes "monkey" and which doesn't even exist in common parlance. Sorry, but this is not a stretch to say he was dog whistling with this.

What does the dog whistling do? Why do racists and white supremacists need secret words to remind them to hate black people?

Seriously.... It's not like racist morons need a Bat Signal to figure out where to vent their dumbassery.

Best practice is to steer clear from using the term "monkey" when referring to a black man. To be clear, DeSantis can say it - it's just ill-advised.

I'm sure he'd agree in hindsight. But the backlash is still ludicrous.

If you do any research on Gillum, it's pretty obvious he's off the reservation economically.

He basically did not even campaign down here in S FL and carried the black vote completely. Make no mistake, the fact that he is black is the ONLY reason he won the primary.

"He appealed both to progressives, making appearances with Sanders at the University of Central Florida and in Tampa, and to the African American community, often citing the primary’s Aug. 28 date as the day the Rev. Martin Luther King gave his “I Have a Dream” speech in 1963 and the day Barack Obama won the Democratic nomination for president in 2008." Orlando Sentinel

The majority of the republican party is currently on board with Trump. Of course his candidates will do well in primaries. That may very well play into the hands of the democrats come Nov. The middle 20% for the most part despises Trump and they will be the determining demographic.
I predict you will be cripplingly surprised.
