well, he was very convincing. and it still makes sense. but the question then is, what matters more...the flexibility that likely exists by moving smith to tackle, or the abilitiy to run the offense they way you want to by having DR at LT , TS at LG, Kennedy at C, R Johnson RG , and Tatum RT? you can address pass protection needs with an H back or TE on either side as needed. and you still get to be an inside out offense with those guards and center from a run game standpoint. i mean it does make sense.Hahahaha, you should know not to listen to Hank. JK. He may be right, I just think that we have a little flexibility and that gets our best 5 on the field.
At first I disagreed.
Then you made some valid points that made me start to reconsider.
Then you really hit the nail on the head and I am in complete agreement with you now. Great debating.
Trey is a unique talent and is the best player at whatever spot needs him most on the line. Bruce Matthews and Larry Allen are the only other comparisons that I can draw from. At the present, I think LT needs his talent the most. If Johnson or whomever builds up to man that spot adequately, then I buy moving him back in to strengthen the interior. This is a guy who could be a first round draft pick at ANY of the 5 OL spots...great problem.A better question for me at this point is where should Smith play- OG or OT?
What is better for the Vols O-line.
How do we get the best 5 on the field?
i do agree with this. and Hall likely isn't going to be around/ready to go for a few games, so if smith is lt, then that has to mean dr is the rt. kennedy is the center, and then 2 of the other 4 or 5 guys to play guard. i don' tknow how much difference there is between that group at this point, they've all gotten some semblence of praise in camp, and to the untrained eye, seem kinda interchangeable at this point.Drew Richmond at LT would be a very bad thing. RT is his natural spot. Unless Hall starts at RT, that's the best spot for Richmond. Hall's durability is going to be a concern... as is Tatum's size.
Not sure the starters matter as much as the rotation on the OL. IMO, Smith and Kennedy will be the anchors, with the other positions rotational. At best, they're going to have to manage Hall's PT. So we could rotate 3-deep at some positions-- and RT is probably one of them. We need Richmond to be much improved. It was mostly his attitude that held him back. The new staff was just what he needed.
yeah, haven't hit on kirkland yet today, but that was disappointing to hear. i want to believe cjp in that it's just maintenance days, but it's starting to feel like it just isn't gonnah happen. rotational player when healthy, it seems anyways.Would be a surprise if we get a full year from Hall or Kirkland. Just can't stay healthy.
this. if DR comes on, i think we can all feel a lot better. Not sure the starters matter as much as the rotation on the OL.
