Pruitt nor Helton either one seem the type to want a check down artist..but..I agree with all that. I just don't get the same notion as many on here that he just wants game manager QBs, and I'm basing my opinions on his recruiting and hiring tendencies, not his words. I know he like every coach doesn't want a guy to throw a bunch of ints. And certainly thinks he can coach it out of them. But Pruitt also doesn't strike me as the conservative type just because saban was. Jmo.
Funny stuff, but limited myself to only 2 pages. I can only stand being in the FF for brief moments.if you need some comic relief on this fine monday, i'll direct you to this thread in the FF...lol. seriously. funny stuff.

Thought some of these stats were interesting regarding downfield passing from our OC's previous stint. Apparently these come from an ESPN internal employee database so I couldn't find full lists or previous years, but in comparison to the big names in the draft last year it's still interesting.
So Darnold had the most attempts that traveled 20+ yards in the air downfield by a fairly significant amount. Middle of the pack in screen passes. Which led to middle of the pack for the drafted guys but above FBS average in Air Yards per Attempt. I have no doubt we will want to be a power running team. And I believe we will utilize the screen a lot as well. But this is one of the reasons I believe we will take a lot more shots downfield than people expect. I get the "oh it's the first year so we gotta not lose it" stuff. And my prediction may be way off. But that's my opinion. And one reason I think JG will win the job. We'll find out soon enough.
Which is why it's looking like Chryst will be the starter. He's the guy who's less likely to get you beat IMO. Guarantano has the better arm, but that obviously doesn't matter when he's throwing td passes to the other team.Ignorant assumption on your part. You are entitled to it. It's just ignorant. CJP wants to win games. Period.
All of a sudden, Shelton Felton sounds a bit blah...if you need some comic relief on this fine monday, i'll direct you to this thread in the FF...lol. seriously. funny stuff.

I was not comparing them. I was showing the style. If the database wasn't ESPN employee only I would've gone back several years to show Helton's air yards per attempt for other qbs. But that data isn't available. I also would've shown it for Will Friends offense at CSU which also was among the top in the nation for explosive plays. I did find this though. Which shows the number of explosive passing plays by how many yards. I sorted to the nations leaders from last year in passing plays of 20+ yards, which is I believe how most define an explosive passing play. Darnold was 5th. Nick Stevens at CSU was 14th. (Nick Stevens also ranked 19th in the nation in yards per attempt and Darnold 13th)agreed. not sure why we continue to go down that rabbit hole in regards to any qb comparison at this point. i don't think anyone is going to mistake JG or KC as all american/1st round draft pick type guys.
On Trey Wallace’s radio show, his producer is reading a text from an inside source that says JG has had disastrous interceptions in the first two scrimmages and that the race is too close to call.
He says his producer played for UT and his sources are legitimate.
I have no idea who his producer is or his connections.
-- SimontonAnother strong off the field addition for the Vols. Felton gives Tennessee yet another inroad to South Georgia.
He played for Rocker at Troy back in '99. He then spent years in Georgia high school football, most recently as the HC of Crisp County (Quay Walker's school) in 2016. After that season, Felton was rumored to be headed to Auburn but because one of his players (Big Cat Bryant) signed with the Tigers, he ended up at UT Chattanooga.

On this next one I sorted by 20+ yard passing plays to see where WKU with Helton ranked. 1st in the nation in 2014 and 2015.

Again, I'm not comparing qbs, only showing that we invested a lot of money on assistant coaches who were known for running explosive offenses. And I realize a lot of people are of the opinion that this year is too early for anything other than running the ball and not taking chances. IMO, our defense will be much improved but I don't think it's gonna be good enough on it's own to rely on to win games with no help from the offense. I also think we have enough weapons on offense that we don't need the defense to win games by itself. By most accounts we have enough talent at WR, RB, and TE to make some plays. Our OLine is starting to look like it may not be as big of a weakness it was thought to be earlier this year. If the goal is to win as many games as possible, letting the offense make plays instead of just trying not to turn it over would be a good thing IMO.

Honestly, he's the only one I think would be better than what we currently have, and that's no slight on Weinke. He's got a very good resume.
I believe Weinke was brought in for his connections, yes; but, more-so than that, I believe him, Helton, and Osovet have been locked in a room by Pruitt each night to create a new type of offense; coaching RBs is secondary. To get him away from Bama, we had to offer him a Position Coach; more than likely he wasn't going to leave his analyst job there to take an analyst job here, so it had to be a step up. I may be wrong, but I believe it had everything to do with helping Helton, along with Osovet, with the ENTIRE offense. I liked Gillespie, but Weinke just brings more to the table when it comes to offense as a whole.Honestly, he's the only one I think would be better than what we currently have, and that's no slight on Weinke. Yeah, I think I hit reply on the wrong post. There were a bunch that couldn't see past the fact that Darnold's name was listed in my post to see the point I was trying to make. I knew that would happen, but that particular stat isn't as available for college as it is for NFL. Not sure why. I actually was trying to find it for CSU and WKU at first but stumbled on those tweets as the only reference to air yards per attempt for college so I posted it. Still think it's interesting though.sleegro, i agree with your rationale regarding style, coaching philosophy and personnel on the staff, the comparison stuff was aimed eslewhere. just don't see the point.
it is and it gives you a little insight in to what this group may be all about when things get where they want it, personnel wise on the field.Yeah, I think I hit reply on the wrong post.
