Yep. I have no problem at all with the way they're handling it.

I mean, I get why the media might be grumbling about the access because it’s their livelihood and all, but Im ok with knowing real basic stuff at this point. I’m not sure Wes Rucker charting throws every practicd is going to improve the quality of my life in any way.

Like in my game thread where some guy said I had bought the media narrative of the Vols not being good. I paused and tried to recall the last time they undersold the Vols, and I couldn’t remember. They thought we’d get to ATL a couple of Butch years, but generally they’ve got it about right... and certainly haven’t undersold
The media as a whole seems much more optimistic than I would have expected given the fact we have a first time head coach taking over a 4 win program.

I’ve rarely seen media members predict us to not make a bowl. Which is pretty impressive if you take of the orange tinted glasses and think about it. They’re predicting at least a two game improvement for a first time head coach and two first time coordinators with complete schematic changes on both sides of the ball. I’d say that’s pretty optimistic.

Instead of wondering, I just asked LWS if he had started being "around the program" again or if he was just speculating on the QB thing.
His response.
Had lunch with some folks this past week. They are well connected..
So, don't know if the coaches opinion is the same as his friends.

I try to be as objective as possible and this is a 6-8 win team, IMO, and I see 6.5, with that half game being a margin of error based on what we don’t know yet or injuries

Cliff notes for LWSVol

2005-2016 (when Fulmer started struggling) Historically, we are a 7 win a year program at best. I don’t expect anything more than that, and neither should anyone else. We won’t be competing for any more championships in my lifetime.

2016 (when he was hearing Blackburn for AD) UT has had leadership problem from the president down. We’ll see if they are willing to change things and hire a guy like Blackburn that could get it done.

2017-present (Since the Haslams caught half the BOT out of town and put Currie in as AD instead of Fulmer or Blackburn) UT has a leadership problem from the president/boosters down. I and about 2,000 other donors are never going to donate money or even set foot Knoxville again. Vols football will never be relevant again in my lifetime. 4 wins per year from here on out, 5 with some lucky bounces.

*the depressing thing is that he’s not really been wrong so far.

LWS = Shadow Man IMO

There are at least 6 teams on the schedule that we have perennially finished 10-15+ spots ahead of in recruiting. I think that subpar player development and coaching is a fairly obvious explanation for losing to any of those teams like we did the past 2 years. So the assumption then is that Pruitt will at least bring an improvement in development and coaching to the table, and as a result, a net gain of 2 wins is a reasonable expectation. If Pruitt doesn’t bring improvement to those areas, it’s fairly safe to say that he is not the guy.

I’d say a 4-7 win team.

If we can’t score consistently on offense I could see the defense being worn down a lot, much like last year.

I can’t possibly see the floor at 4, and I do think 8 is optimistic, but that’s why it’s my ceiling. Things go really well against a couple of stronger opponents and it can happen.

6-7 though

I am at 8-4 and have been for a while. I just think the existing talent + new guys + actual coaches can easily get 3 more wins and probably a 4th. Plus, I'm an optimist so that helps in life in general.

I can't see 4 either.
There's that many we should roll on talent alone, blindfolded. I have to believe we win another game or so, minimum.

If the best Pruitt can manage to do is match our historic low as a program, then I think it’s fairly safe to say he is not the guy and like Larry often suggests, we will probably never be relevant again.

I think the WV is a lil out of reach this year. We could win, but I’d be surprised

For me, the season’s swing games are

Florida
Missouri
Kentucky
South Carolina

South Carolina may be in the WV area, but I need to see more before I completely buy it. Kentucky barely makes this list.

The rest are fairly clear wins and losses IMO.

Yes, I would agree. There’s no guarantee he’s the guy. We literally do not know.

But if you’re asking me what the floor is, I believe it to be 4 wins. I believe the ceiling to be 7 wins.

Ultimately I believe we’ll be closer to the ceiling than the floor - 6 wins.

I think the coaches pretty much know who's playing where and who's starting against WVU. They're just not announcing it, and the media sees very little. They're not getting much on the record.

I think QB and which offensive line unit is still up in the air.

LWS has great sources and for some reason this board is totally disregarding everything he says just as it did last year when he said Butch was in over his head and that we’d have our worst team of all time.

I don’t necessarily agree with his pessimism this year but watching this cycle repeat itself is comical.

In the past you are correct but this time Larry also admits this time around that he's spoken to no one. I personally think Larry has moved on from Tennessee athletics.
