QB job is Keller Chryst's to lose going into 2nd scrimmage

Yes, it's Chryst's to lose. I explained this in another thread.
Pruitt did not bring in a grad transfer senior from a power 5 school to back up JG. Nope.
If you think coaches are objective you're crazy. So, Chryst will get every opportunity to win the job. What does that mean. He will be put in better play calling position. He will get more slack.
That doesn't mean he isn't the better QB. He may rightfully deserve the job, but i can promise you that every afforded favor is being slanted his way.
That's some BS Jones would do. Pruitt doesn't strike me as that kind of guy

On the podcast, JG "became unglued" in the first scrimmage.
That’s interesting. I’ve heard just the opposite. That while Keller did indeed have his best showing in the first scrimmage (which he desperately needed btw), that JG played just as well, was very efficient, made several big plays downfield.

Who knows what the truth is, but I tend to side with the VQ guys because of the access they have....and they’re all in lockstep saying that it’s actually JG’s job to lose and he still enjoys a fairly sizable advantage over Chryst to start. We’ll know soon enough.

I don't believe a word anyone in the media says, especially state run media. None of them have access with Pruitt like they did with Jones, Jones would give them nuggets in exchange for blowing smoke up everyones a$$.

Firmly disagree. Chryst was brought in to strengthen the QB position because when JP saw JG, a skilled kid who had his share of struggles last year, backed up by an OVC level qb who can’t play in this league (McBride), he knew he needed help at that position.

Chryst was brought in to compete and at a minimum provide 2nd team depth. But I don’t believe for a second that they’re gonna skew the circumstances in Chryst’s favor....the players would pick up on that in a second and JP would run the risk of creating dissension and splitting the locker room ..... I think he’s smarter than that.

No, it’ll be a fair competition and Chryst will either win the job fair and square or he’ll be JG’s backup as s capable guy with good game experience.....and I think that’s the ultimate scenario that’ll play out here.

Just want to voice my opinion here...and it is just my opinion...JG wanted to come to UT from the getgo...he committed, signed, and came...he was a very highly rated QB coming out of high school and I think he will excel while he is here...Butch did not utilize him correctly and that still has some ramifications but JG will be just fine as things fall into place for him...Chryst did not want to come to UT so he went to Stanford...I don't know a lot about him other than his stats at Stanford...so now he comes here to finish up his collegiate career and eligibility...I hope both of these young men have an outstanding year however CJP utilizes them but, for me, JG is the man I want to see running our offense and leading us to higher than expected results...GBO!!!

I'd rather see a QB who isn't connected to Botch Jones pathetic offense taking the snaps;) That's just me,however;)

The only one I am partial to is the one who gives us the best chance to win football games.
I trust the coaching staff to make the right decision on that.
Hopefully the separation between the two isn't so thin that we go with two QBs until one wins the job outright.

I heard Peyton Manning was granted a 5th year.......seriously can we stop with the speculation? Honestly, all our QB's have faults. Haven't seen too much film on Chryst; but It's good to hear JG has developed because last year he was indecisive and held the ball too long. Granted our O line was something to be desired, he is still partially to blame for some sacks. We need a field general this year, not an athlete, and whomever that may be I will fully support.

I personally think both QB's will play against West Virginia. Whichever guy has the hot hand will earn the starting QB position on the field in a live game. Similar to the Shaeffer and Ainge battle from several years ago. I've never been crazy about playing two QB's but the closer we get the more I feel like both will get an opportunity.

Guy seems to also imply in that podcast that JG is a whiner when he gets hard coaching. I don't know if this is true but we did see some sulking last season when he didn't start the first game. Whomever wins will be the best guy I don't think they would let a Grad transfer win the job if we wasn't better and vice versa let the sophomore have it if the Grad Transfer was better. I am for whomever wins let the battle continue.

Only few days ago I heard Austin Price say that Chryst's chances of winning the starting job were on life support.

I won't believe anything until I know it comes from CJP. And as reticent as that man is, we may not know who the starting QB is until game time.
you get a like for using the word "reticent"

I don't believe we offered Chryst out of high school.

College football QB battles 2018: Experts dish on the latest

Jarrett Guarantano (Soph.): 6 starts, 4-2, 61.9%. No. 1 DT-QB in 2016.
Keller Chryst (Senior): 7 starts, 8-4, 54%. No. 3 PRO-QB in 2014.

“First-year Vols coach Jeremy Pruitt would like us to believe there's still a four-man race between sophomore Jarrett Guarantano, grad-transfer senior Keller Chryst, sophomore Will McBride and freshman JT Shrout for the starting quarterback job. Most people in and around the program still believe it to be a two-man race between Guarantano and Chryst, though, and the majority belief among the players seems to remain in Guarantano's favor. Guarantano has matured considerably in the past year, and the former No. 1 dual-threat quarterback prospect in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite seems to be popular with his peers.

“Plenty can change in the next three weeks, but at this point I'd be surprised if anyone but Guarantano took the first snap against West Virginia in Week 1. I still believe more than one quarterback will start games this season for Tennessee, though.” — Wes Rucker, GoVols247

That's exactly what the podcast says. It's a two-man race but Chryst's to lose going into the second scrimmage. If he does well, then it's his job.
