Hmmmm. That might work for me as well. I’ll miss Viceland though. They have a couple shows I like.

You see, to those of us who have the poster ignored, you all start replying and it seems like you might need a psych evaluation. Case in point, here is what I saw from several posters (with no visual evidence that they've quoted someone else):

@Sleegro : Is there a team we could say something negative about that you wouldn't get upset about? You have no issue saying negative things about us, but if we ever say anything negative about anyone else you get real butt hurt.

Like I said, it's an amusing new phenomenon, as all of those statements (with no context of what or who they are replying) seem mentally unstable! (I know y'all aren't, that's just how it looks to a bunch of us that have the user y'all are responding to ignored)

Yeah, I'm so looking forward to seeing what these coaches get out of Phillips, I think it will be an All SEC plauer. And I completely agree with you about Sapp. Even if he doesn't start, he's going to be big for us this year.

From the Erik Ainge show today:

The crew talked about Shamburger and Bates switching positions. They said they understand cross training Shamburger at Safety but Ainge said the movement of Bates between inside and outside backer is because he’s a really good player but he’s a tweener.

Brian talked about the shuffling around going on with the defensive line just trying to cross train guys there to always make sure when you are in a 3 down set you can always have your best 3 out there and you’re not shoe horned into something like this guy is only a nose tackle and this guy is only on the outside. Ainge agrees. Ainge says it’s impossible to have depth unless you have guys who can play multiple spots in their same position groups.

Brian noted yesterday Richmond was at right tackle. Brian thinks that means when Trey Smith is cleared for full contact he’ll be at left tackle. Ainge says there’s less pressure at right tackle. Brian said it’s easier to play right tackle. Ainge says the way Drew sometimes gets beat, his problem is he sometimes puts himself in a position where he’s going to get beat and if he is on the right side Jarrett will be able to see it and move in the pocket accordingly. Having Trey on the backside is one less thing for Jarrett to have to worry about. All the pressure at that point is in your face. You can see it.

They talk about the Princeton Fant move to TE and Ainge says if you get into a pinch in a game you at least have somebody who knows what to do.

They go back to talking about Bates saying it’s like for a D1 player he’s like a C+ to a B- at 4 different spots but there’s a B+ to an A- in each one of those position groups, even on our team right now. Ainge said it’s like, is Tyler Byrd going to beat out Todd Kelly or Micah Abernathy at Safety. No. He said it’s like a jack of all trades but a master of none and he stresses it’s not a dig on the players. This is the Southeastern conference. This is big time. This is big boy stuff. You have to be the best at that position. He said some guys you can put anywhere and they will find success. He cites Eric Berry, says Alontae Taylor seems to have a bit of that, James Banks was like that when he was here. Ainge says there are a ton of tweeners all the time. Brian says it doesn’t mean you’re a bad player; it just means you’re not better than who we’ve got at that position.

Caller calls and wants to talk about a 10 point spread for the WVU game.

Ainge says all anyone knows and this includes our coaches is that WVU has a Heisman candidate at QB and pretty good receivers and they should be pretty tough to stop in the passing game. We don’t know how good their defense is going to be, our offense, our defense, eithers special teams, team psyche, offseason implications, we’ll see. Brian says in talking to the numbers guys they see a possibility of Tennessee winning the game. They don’t think Tennessee will lose a close game. They see the big play ability of WVU and see it being a 15 or 20 point game. So the numbers guys see either a Tennessee win or a huge Tennessee loss. Either we have a better defense than last year or we don’t.

Ainge says he has a different theory. He thinks first off talent-wise we’re at least on par with Virginia Tech and TCU both of who WVU lost to last year. If WVU has a lull or stalls in the 1st half they’re going to come out in a 10-14 point hole in the 2nd half that they have to dig themselves out of and Ainge thinks because of the coaching staff and the ability to in-game adjust, make moves on the fly, our offense will continue to produce in the 2nd half and they won’t catch up. He doesn’t think we blow them out but he thinks our offense will be pretty steady, pretty consistent, make a few big plays, don’t turn it over a ton, and we’ll put up 30+ on their defense. He says if you can make WVU even more one dimensional than they already are it totally eliminates their option of any run game. That’s when you can really put the foot down, for lack of a better term.

Caller asks about Kongbo.

Ainge says it’s impossible to know what you’re doing when you don’t even know why you’re doing it. He thinks this year Kongbo has settled in to his new role and he’s really much more comfortable in his understanding of what’s going on. Ainge compares Kongbo to Robert Ayers. He said Ayers wasn’t really good to be honest and never really did anything here until his 5th year in school and then ended up being a 1st round draft pick. He was recruited as a linebacker but was too slow for the type of linebackers that Chavis wanted but then he got really good at being a sub pass rusher. When it’s 3rd down and 6+ there is no scheme to think about. It’s pinned ‘em back and go get the guy with the ball. The only difference is we need Kongbo to be an every down player. He said the coaches like what Kongbo is doing in practice.

The guys say with Big Ben’s concussion protocols, Josh Dobbs is expected to see all the playing time against the Packers on Thursday night.

Caller calls in to talk about Dobbs and the talent on our teams in ’15 & 16 and Ainge uses the opportunity to remind everyone to stick to thinking “it’s about players not about plays.”

Brian says after watching some practice and talking to some people who are allowed to see more than him he thinks the running back position is Tennessee’s best position right now. He said a lot of people would say linebacker. He cites the evidence we’ve already seen of Ty Chandler and he says Madre London started as a freshman at Michigan State before he got hurt and buried on the depth chart. He said people he’s talked to are impressed with London. He said the staff thinks highly of Tim Jordan as well. He said you also have Jeremy Banks the freshman who looks like a man.

Ainge said it’s hard for a freshman running back to be an every down back because of the pass pro learning curve. They say that is the reason Jamal Lewis didn’t start at the very beginning of his freshman season. Brian said things have chance enough that it’s easier to get a freshman running back ready to play now than it was back in Lewis’ time.

Caller calls in saying he recently met Will Ignont’s family and asks for a scouting report.

Brian says he’ll see a lot more playing time this year. Ainge says it’s really hard right now because ahead of him are, if healthy, DKjr and Daniel Bituli and Quart’e Sapp. Ainge says Will is like Bates he’s good at stuff but he’s not great at anything.

Brian goes back to running backs. He said Jamal didn’t start at the beginning of the season because he didn’t know pass pro and back then players didn’t come in for summer school. They showed up on the first day of fall practice. The rule got changed in the mid-2000’s but until then the school couldn’t pay for summer school. If a particular running back doesn’t know the breadth of his position when he goes into the game you are telegraphing to the defense that you are one dimensional.

Ainge says he doesn’t think we’re going to have a hard time establishing the run on offense or stopping the run when we are in our 3-4 base set on defense. He says what he needs to see us improve on is when we are in nickel with a team that has 3 receivers, a TE, and they spread you out and still run the ball. He said he just needs to see us do it first (stop the run in that alignment).

Will West shows up and evidently he’s been invited on a number of shows around the SEC because of his argument with Ainge about whether or not Tennessee can beat WVU. He says it’s not insane to believe that Tennessee can beat WVU but until he knows who the corners are he’s not going to pick them that way because WVU can throw the ball all over the field but he says if this was late October he might pick Tennessee to win the game.

Will concedes Ainge knows more than him and even called Baker Mayfield as the number one pick in the draft. He says he’s learned that when Ainge is out there almost against everyone else he can turn out to be right. There were a number of issues surrounding Mayfield but Ainge never wavered on it and it turned out he was right. Everyone else is shocked but Ainge, he says, has been saying that crap since January.

Ainge say Vols by 6.

I saw a picture the other day of Bates, and, idk, he looked A HELL OF A LOT bigger than he has previously. It could have been the angle at which he was standing, or something else, idk; but, he looked WAY bigger.

I would feel great about the oline if Hall can come back 100%. Richmond has been straight up terrible in his time here. It’s fair to think he could make some large improvements given the circumstances, but a healthy Hall would be a massive upgrade in all likelihood.

The oline might be good either way.

Having a 5* by his name on a recruiting site has done him no favors with fans. Created expectations that should have never been there. He is not a case of being bad because her played under CBJ. Reality is simply that he never was a 5* talent regardless of what recruiting sites said.
