If he can't qualify for an academic redshirt, he was never close. He must have had a path to qualify or UT wouldn't have squandered a spot. Being able to count his 16 best core grades toward a 2.0, with no courses or grades locked-in, is a lot easier. Under the lower requirements, his worst grades don't even have to count.
Yes but the point is he probably already qualified for the academic redshirt and is just trying to qualify to play instead now. Otherwise they probably wouldn't already list him on the roster.Still. Have. To. Qualify. I never gloomed on the 2.0 v 2.3 thing. His core classes have been the hangup.
It's not the clearing house anymore but yeah, that would seem to be what we're waiting on now. NCAA approval. I don't think anybody has failed to consider that though. All of this discussion seems .to fail to consider that the.NCAA -"ClearingHouse" can throw all of this out in a blink of an eye...OR as that changed?
There was and it still can be done in time. And the coaches expect it.I thought that there was a discussion about getting a late course finished and reported.
If that is the case the NCAA has its own schedule. They don't expedite, as they want to discourage these type of cases.and I have no idea what the current title is for the review committee. They change everything constantly so that everybody stays confused.
Just because you made a timeline doesn't change the fact that the coaches expect him to qualify. Or that even if he isn't available to play this season, he very likely still qualifies for an academic redshirt allowing him to practice with the team this fall while he gets his grades up to qualify for next season. There are stories like Loften where they never make it in, and there are also stories where they do.VN circa May 2018
err
June 2018,

super cereal about Fall Camp,
got Edrick Loften feels about him making it in.

From my guessing seat I don't think we are waiting on the NCAA. I think we are waiting on him to improve a score enough to then qualify.
A recent similar storyline at UGA...2017/Wyatt. Well known the kid had some core grade issues that could prevent enrollment. As summer concluded, his glide-path took him to JUCO as a JET student to get his Core Grade fixed. He then enrolled for January 1.
With all the background noise that has ben around JJ for over a year now...This looks like his likely trajectory....
Correct, if he has met the criteria, he can practice while awaiting the NCAA decision. If he makes it, NCAA should just be a formality as they have approved just about everyone. Only one I’ve seen turned down was they thought it was tampered manuscript/test scores. From my guessing seat I don't think we are waiting on the NCAA. I think we are waiting on him to improve a score enough to then qualify.
If we are waiting on the NCAA I think he woud be practicing now as they have a 10 grade period for that iirc. Especially if he is close enough to be an acedemic RS
Well said.I have thought he would make it all along, but if he is still trying to finish classes it seems like he was either way behind or is struggling to make score. I would have to think if he can't get in by next week even if he does get in it will be much later in the year before he makes much of a impact. If it is only a matter of raising a score I cannot fathom it taking this long. But none of us know what truly is the case here, most like me are just speculating. I am pulling for JJ. GBO!!!!
Yes, I believe it counts as a normal redshirt. It's just a way to help borderline kids qualify.Silly question here...if a player takes an academic redshirt, does that count as a normal redshirt year? IOW, it would be the same as if he had come in needing to develop in a S&C program etc.
So, after an academic redshift, the only redshirt option remaining would be a medical?
