So in catching up it seems to me that if KC got majority of snaps with 1st team in the scrimmage like Hank says then it was likely the staff going off feel of the game as it was playing out as VQ mentions Guarantano was holding onto ball too long. Very easily could have been JG starting things off then struggling and Chryst finding the rhythm so they rode hot hand like they would a real game. Just a thought.

Definitely top 3, don't think greatest though. I like using has been because it riles people up. He's not as good as he was and people need to accept that.

Well most people aren’t as good at age 42 than when they were younger, especially after multiple back surgeries. Since Payne Stewart won the 1999 US Open at age 41, only 3 players have won a major over 40 years of age. He was 2 strokes away in a very competition field. Pretty sure people can accept that he’s not his old self by nature. But this week he showed that he can still win another one.

Just trying to talk you off the ledge. I, like you, would rather JG win the job but KC doesn’t suck like you are trying to make it sound.

He apparently threw a bomb today at practice so it should not like he’s got a pop gun on his right shoulder.
I will believe he is a better than mediocre QB when I see it. One pass doesn't mean crap to me.

They have seen plenty of JG and KC in practice but not much in person “when the lights come on” in a game atmosphere. As we know, there can be a huge difference (Dobbs).

Maybe they just want to give KC his shot here to show he’s a gamer, and JG will get more snaps next scrimmage. Not much to wring hands over, IMO

Coaches like to play their guys. I’m really surprised we haven’t had more departures by now. It’s almost always in their best interest with a new coaching staff. I’m not saying KC doesn’t give us a better chance to win. I don’t know. I know that coaches are generally predisposed to play their guys.
How is either JG or Chryst “their guys”? Other guys recruited and signed them out of high school. If anything, JG has more time with them. This narrative needs to be included in a firing line along with “Chryst didn’t come to Knoxville to not start.”

I think it’s obvious that JG looked a lot better coming out of high school while playing against mediocre competition. If he was half as good as us and everyone else thought he would be then there wouldn’t be a QB competition right now.

Was IMG mediocre competition? Because he absolutely destroyed them.

As of now, but quite a few will get meaningful PT this year.

We'll see. I'm sure a lot of those guys will play against cupcakes, but I'm not sure how many meaningful snaps most of those guys will get unless we have some injuries on the DL. Seems like the staff is pretty set on Tuttle, Johnson, Phillips, and Gooden being the top 4 guys. Haven't heard too much promising from the rest of the DL though. That's to be expected from most of the freshman, of course. But it's disappointing that Butler and Bennet haven't been able to make more out of their opportunities thus far.

Oh...I promise I will now. I'm looking forward to watching 3-6 play drives ending in punts all game every game. That sounds like fun doesn't it?

I will say that i think KC moves the chains more frequently and has turned the ball over less through out the fall.

JG takes more chances and hits on more big plays in the air and on the ground but also misses more throws and has turned the ball over.

Pruitt also said that it was a lot of 1st team offense against 2nd team defense and vice versa. So if thats true then kc was going against backups with starters and jg going against our starters with backups.

They will find 2-3 more.

Not gonna play 4 DL through SEC play.

Yeah it definitely makes sense that they'd give Chryst first team reps at some point to see what he can do.

Seeing who is taking 1st team reps in the next scrimmage will be very telling.
Yep. And maybe they want to see how JG reacted to not getting these reps in the first scrimmage. Mental toughness thing maybe?

There are plenty of ways for drives to be killed, though. If JG is taking unnecessary sacks it's just as bad or worse than Chryst being limited throwing the ball.
