Still think this is a 6 win football team, with an outside shot at 7 wins. Weaknesses at d line, in the secondary, and it doesn't sound like the kicking game is calling for much optimism. Obviously QB is a question, but I'm fairly confident in our offense. I think the o line, receivers and running backs are pretty solid. I see people on here acting like 7 is almost a given, seen several predict 8 or 9 wins as well. Neither Saban or Smart did that well in their first year, and they both walked into better situations. As good as I think this staff is, they're not going to just wave a magic wand and have us winning that fast. If Pruitt is the guy, you'll probably know it in year two, definitely year three IMO.
My expectations for this year are to make a bowl game, compete in every game outside of maybe UGA and Bama, and land a top ten class. In year two, I'll be expecting no less than 9 regular season wins. That out of conference schedule is sauce, should beat Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Missouri and South Carolina. I think we draw Mississippi State from the west next year as well. This is fair. I think Pruitt and company win a game or two people think they shouldn't (Florida, South Carolina, and/or Missouri).
If you look at the long term trends in the SEC, there's clearly a ladder Tennessee has to climb to get back on time. It starts with beating who they should beat consistently (Vandy and Kentucky), and then it's consistently beating the mid-tier teams (Missouri and South Carolina). Of those two, South Carolina is the most critical for picking up recruits that in the Carolinas and the kids in Atlanta/North Georgia that aren't already going to Georgia. Then it's Georgia for the cream of the crop out of Atlanta, and then it's Florida and Alabama for the cream of the crop nationally.
I want us to beat who we're supposed to beat (Kentucky and Vandy), beat at least one of South Carolina, Missouri, and Florida, and not get blasted out of the stadium by Bama and Georgia.
- SimontonHe's a backup at SAM. He's gotten bigger this offseason. Still behind DT, Kongbo and maybe even DJ on the outside.
- HubbsI think he's a guy that Pruitt is talking about in playing with toughness all the time. Yes, there are flashes but he needs to be more physical all the time
- SimontonButler was mentioned in a thread or chat earlier this week. He's got good size, but he's too stiff at times and he's someone who overthinks things out on the field. I thought he'd be a player here. He's only a sophomore. But he's one of many in that '17 class who have been leapfrogged by newcomers.
--Hubbsthink Butler's focus is often too technical. Almost robotic. I think he needs to relax, cut it loose and go play.
- SimontonJennings is still a jokester at times. He was giving all the WRs water the other day. He definitely has his teammates' respect.
- HubbsI think his demeanor has been fine. I watched him give some pointers to some younger receivers in blocking drills the other day. I do think he's more reserved or more business like at this point. I think he just needs to get healthier and keep knocking some rust off.
- SimontonFor one, Pruitt hasn't discussed this explicitly. He told Hyams he would still deliver the signals ... but that doesn't mean that Sherrer won't make the calls. Behind the scenes, this has all been ironed out.
- HubbsI think they have discussed it and I think they have a plan in place. I think Sherrer knew what he was getting into when he took this role. Much the same way Pruitt knew what he was getting into with Saban as his DC, Mel Tucker as Kirby Smart's DC. I don't think it's an issue.
Definitely about the people, but I think God might be intrigued by watching competition. We could get into a long-winded philosophical discussion about his omniscience, but I would rather not.
If you ever get a chance, give one to Sadie’s. One of the best places I’ve ever eaten. My stepdaughter took a roadtrip with her boyfriend’s mom and sister which went through Albuquerque and wanted a dining recommendation...immediately said Sadie’s and they loved it enough to hit it again on the way back to DFW. Dream about their carne adovada with that NM red chile. I worked at the VA. I heard when they closed the base that facility went to seed with the inferior workforce.Never, but I would much rather dine there than visit the ABQ medical facilities again! (We live about 4 hours away.)
