We’re always good man. Defending Butch isn’t my first instinct...despite some narratives. It’s good practice when things get bloody tho.

Someone asked a few pages back if anyone thought we'd have someone like Taylor follow Sills throughout the game. Jennings and Sills are both Seniors this year, Simms is a Junior. White graduated and 3*star TJ Simmons, a transfer from Alabama that sat out last year, has been the leading candidate to replace White. Last year WVU rarely threw to their RBs or TEs. They hired a TE coach before spring as their 10th assistant and there has been chatter about trying to get the position more involved in the game this year.

Just looking at their distribution across their 4 leading receivers last year, I don't think focusing extra attention on one receiver is going to make much of a difference, if any. Harrassing Grier and not making mistakes in the secondary is what I'd guess is the key to our success. I'm also guessing we may be in nickel most of the game, maybe even dime. Maybe Ainge or some one else with some real insight will address our coverage schemes against an offence like WVU sometime in the next few days. I don't have a clue except to say anyone of the returning guys is obviously capable of making plays. With the lopsided number of TDs and with his height, I'm guessing Sills is their go to guy in the red zone.

Jennings is a 6'2 215 senior. Sills is a 6'4 215 senior. Simms is a 6'0 194 junior and Simmons is a 6'2 200 redshirt sophomore. Last year White was a 6'1 199 redshirt senior.

We could post it in this thread during game week and you can pick and choose if there is anything you want to aggregate into the game preview thread. Just be advised I for one will not be signing on to any outcome prediction for any game no matter the opponent that doesn't have us winning by at least fitty to nuttin.

Previously I’ve just given a brief introduction, followed by about 5 keys to victory. That number is not a hard number, but it’s where I will generally look at key matchup or statistical analysis to see what I think Tennessee needs to do to win. In the event that it’s a cupcake, it’s usually more brief and amounts to improving weak points in team performance, avoiding injuries and getting the young guys playing time.

I certainly welcome contributions. My wife has told me my brain has limitations, though I’m not so sure, and your statistical analysis is light years beyond what I can do.

And I never thought in a million yrs, my friend, I would be defending a lawyer playing coach; and I use to not, my brother finally talked me into Butch was worse than Dooley, and I finally saw enough that I agree; I don't think it's so much I believe that Dooley was better as I just can't stand Butch. Dooley left us terrible, Butch left us broken.

I was trying to get an idea about how to best defend against Dana Holgorsen's WVU offense.

Here is the preview of the 2014 Alabama-West Virginia matchup in the Georgia Dome to start that season. It’s Saban vs Holgorsen.

One thing the Tide needs to be ready for is a ton of “ghost” action (a player running across the formation at, or before, the snap of the ball presenting a reverse look). By employing a ton of ghost, the defense is forced to assign a box player to contain the potential reverse.

The minute Holgorsen thinks the defense is not keying on the ghost, it will quickly be turned into a “Speed sweep.”

Perhaps a “46” look from the Tide would be good to circumvent the Mountaineers’ screen-game prowess. By walking Collins up in the box, essentially making him a de facto linebacker, the Tide would gain a sideline-to-sideline blur to go along with the athletic prowess of Ragland and the kamikaze-like recklessness of Foster.

This would put the onus on the cornerbacks, preferably freshmen Tony Brown and Marlon Humphrey, to be disciplined in their principles. It would also put a ton of pressure on the free safety to defend against the deep stuff.

The Mountaineers have a couple of deep-ball threats in Ronald Carswell and Mario Alford, so expect Holgorsen to test whoever lines up in the secondary.

Make no mistake about it; West Virginia is not in Bama’s league. Alabama is stronger along both lines of scrimmage and has way more talent at the skill positions. But WVU has the scheme to exploit weaknesses, perceived or authentic, and Bama is inexperienced in certain key position (most notably in the secondary).

Expect a monster day from interior lineman DJ Pettway if he’s allowed to shoot gaps against that zone blocking. His quickness is uncanny and he’s very physical at the point of attack. If fellow lineman A’Shawn Robinson is healthy enough to go, the Tide will force the Mountaineers to go to their stretch-zone game — where Ragland, Foster and Collins will be waiting with bated breath.

WVU passed 29/45 for 365 yards and 1 TD, 0 Ints. They ran the ball 24 times for a net 28 yards and 0 TDs.

Blake Sims passed 24/33 for 250 yards, 0 TDs and 1 Int. Bama rushed 49 times for 288 yards and 3 TDs.

WVU had a kickoff return for a TD and hit 3 out of 4 FGs. Bama hit 4/4 on FGs.

It was actually a good game, tied at the half with 17 a piece. Bama won 33-23. Bama got 3 sacks and a total 6 TFLs. They won TOP 37:47 – 22:13.
