Like Cat said earlier, we should be better at every position next year except the DL. Losing a ton up front.

Could see some guys leave early with good years this year (Warrior, Bituli come to mind)

Butch isn’t an idiot. He was a semi successful college coach at multiple stops. He is also very good At STs.

I know we all hate butch but let’s not act like he is a 12u coach.
I would rather keep acting like it. He led us to our first 8 loss season ever. EVER. He deserves all the wrath he receives.

Which is not that bad, because that means they've been coached and played well.

Big if, but IF JG shows us he can be a leader and consistent and if the JUCOs step and can plug the holes on the DL next year, we should be MUCH improved. Take a look at the schedule too, it's looking pretty good for 2019.

I may be in the minority here, but I’d like to see Dooley be successful in time. I think he’s a personality who could make college football interesting.

He failed here miserably. Could each of you imagine your biggest life failure and embarrassment being aired out in front of millions? From a human perspective I’d like to see someone succeed from that. I’ll say the same for Butch, but let’s give that a few years, LOL.
If Dooley wasn't such a jerkwad, he might get a bit more sympathy. Plus, both he and Butch were paid millions to help them get through the public embarrassment.

Yep. Butch is a great special teams coach. Bama has been poor at kick off coverage in the past and if Butch helps in that area it would be big for them

More from Rutherford

"Marquez Callaway, Brandon Johnson, Josh Palmer, and Jauan Jennings have really started to separate themselves at wide receiver. I think Jordan Murphy has shown plenty of flashes too, and that may be the five-man rotation UT ends up running with this season. I don’t expect them to go as deep with a receiver rotation this year as they have in the past. With that being said, however, I did like a few things I saw from Latrell Williams today too.

I really like what I’ve been seeing from Jordan Allen so far, and he didn’t disappoint me on Sunday either. He showed a really good burst in pass rushing drills, and he knows how to beat offensive linemen at the point of attack. He’s gotten bigger, stronger, and looks more agile as well. I think he’s working his way into the rotation at outside linebacker for sure. "

Don’t disagree, but is being a jerk was the byproduct of failure and stress?

The Vols generally brushed aside any questions about their own expectations for the season and spouted clichés about taking things game by game, though receiver Brandon Johnson did strike an optimistic tone. Tennessee opens the season Sept. 1 against West Virginia at Charlotte, North Carolina.

"I feel we're really headed in the right direction," Johnson said. "(We're) really just working every day, working hard and putting in the work. I feel like you guys will be pleased with the outcome come this fall."

Their businesslike approach thus far has impressed Pruitt, who was part of five national championship staffs at Alabama and Florida State.

"I really like the guys on our team," Pruitt said. "They're fun to be around. They're willing to do whatever we ask. They're hungry. They have not questioned anything we've asked them to do. They've just done it. As long as they continue to do that, we'll be OK."

Why does anyone think we’ll be weaker on DL? Kmac underwhelmed for 3 years and while I admire Vickers for his work and effort,he isn’t a SEC caliber dlineman.

Simonton and Price...

- JG was by far the best QB today
- Taylor was the standout on D, picked off both JG and Chryst
- OL was a mixed bag
- Kongbo and D. Taylor looked good in their new standup roles
- Buchanan didn't have his best day, George looked good behind him
- Tillman flashed with some big time plays
- DWA stood out, he's a player
- Jacob Warren showed he's going to help this team down the road
