It's very simple. 100% the Tennessee episode tainted Schiano forever. Fair or not he is unhirable now especially in a spot like is happening at Ohio State.

Much the same many of us would never trust any female alone with AJ Johnson ever again.

Fair or not it's the truth
That’s garbage. Either we are delusional as a fanbase, he is great, and all the normal people of the world disagree with us = he is hire able for everyone except TN fans

Or

He is unhireable bc of his own baggage.

Can’t be both ways

Bruin is back. The fact that he was far beyond damaged goods prior to the fiasco had nothing to do with it, I am sure.

I don't buy his baggage as hard true facts but I understand most if not all here do. It's what we choose to believe.

One thing is certain it's much much easier to believe the baggage now than before the Tenn episode and that's the only point I am making which is exactly why Ohio State couldn't even entertain hiring him now

His own baggage tainted him. not the opinion of Tennessee fans.

He's unhirable now and that is the point.

But he's not unhirable. If he is, it's only because of the self-fulfilling prophecy that people like Wolken are pushing. He was a bad fit for Tennessee, and a small faction of our fanbase blew something that they know very little about out of proportion in reaction to his potential hiring. Wolken & co then blew it more out of proportion by saying we dragged Schiano's name through the mud and forever tarnished his reputation, and only now that the snowball has turned into an avalanche is he unhirable. All because perception is reality now.

He may not be HC material for big-time P5 programs, but I'm sure a smaller directional school would roll the dice on him, at least before his name got hooked into a (sh)(tw)itshow again. He does have impressive results for those programs with lower expectations.

Btw, coaching NFL and coaching college are two very different things. Some sort of autocracy can be tolerated at the collegiate level.

Got a small fry instead of medium, but they made up for with with a large drink instead of medium
At Wendy's (and Krystal), large is the new medium. You need hand trucks to walk out of there with the new large.

This is correct but as much as it pains me Bruin is correct as well.

His own baggage tainted him with a black mark - people were willing to overlook them until we brought it to the mainstream.

Vols fans played a role. But it was his own undoing. We just shined a brighter spotlight.

It was a combination of factors.

Yes, he already had his own baggage. But remember, the Schiano hire was already viewed as a Haslam power play and there was already serious blood in the water for anything remotely tied to House Haslam.

Then all it took was a passionate fanbase, with a massive online presence, that for all intents and purposes was already "at war".... to get hold of that "baggage" and start screaming from the mountain top. The collective megaphone that is VolNation & VolTwitter proved too much for him (and the Haslam's) to overcome. Twitter, Facebook, Students, Professors, Politicians, Alums, etc.... Tennessee made itself heard. That "this is NOT OK", we will not stand for it (on multiple fronts for multiple people).

Truth is, if he had been rumored to be the next coach at say Texas Tech, he probably skates thru the process no problem. This story doesn't resonate there, or other places like it. Tennessee is a very passionate place.

The Tennessee fanbase absolutely shined a big bright light on Greg Schiano. And he'll probably never get another HC job again.

I cant speak for everyone else. Just myself. I didn't like schiano for things unrelated to Penn State. I didnt like him because of his Tampa Bay baggage, because of his Rutgers baggage and because he is an average coach at best. The Penn State stuff is unnecessary in determining his hirability or lack thereof.

If Tennessee fans are so out of line per other fanbases, national media and the prestigious vetting process that Ohio State possess, then why have the actions in his hiring agree with Tennessee? Why did Oregon pass? Because his baggage is his and his own doing. Has very little, if at all, to do with Tennessees fan base. He wasnt rumored as the next hire anywhere because of his baggage!

I didn’t know anything about his baggage. I was pissed because after a decade of poor coaching decisions and horrible play it looked like a Groundhog Day bs hire. My first thought was wtf. Here we go again. I learned about the baggage here. I don’t have twitter and I wasn’t anywhere near Knoxville though so I had nothing to do with his unraveling. I enjoyed the hell out of watching it happen though. Made me proud and proved the passionate blood of our fan base is still pumping.
