I don't understand it guys. I'm as realistic as the next person, but facts:

1 game we will play this year is against Derek Dooley.
1 game we will play this year is against Will Muschamp, who is in no way, shape or form better than Pruitt.
1 game we will play this year is against a basketball school.
1 game we will play this year is against Vanderbilt.

Plus, we get Charlotte and UTEP and ETSU.

If you guys are seriously saying that you think our talent is so bad that we can't beat those 7 schools after subtracting the most inept head coach we've ever had, and adding one of the nation's brightest football minds as HC, then I really question your sanity.

We have talent. We have a 4* QB, Ty Chandler at RB who showed a lot of promise, Jennings and Callaway are proven WRs, the top JUCO TE is now with us, we have two 5* Offensive linemen lining up together. We have Shy Tuttle on the defensive line that has shown he can be great when healthy, as well as Kyle Phillips who was a 4* out of high school. Bituli is going to be ridiculous in this system...and I can keep going.

Just because Butch couldn't develop talent doesn't mean the talent isn't there. And yes, I believe we have had more talent than Missouri, Vandy, Kentucky, South Carolina, and even Florida for the past few years. We just needed to develop it and a coach who knew to run the ball on the 1 yard line. I believe we have that now.

Put me down for believing in 9-3, because not only do I think that we win the 7 above, but I believe we steal one from Florida and beat West Virginia, but we take Auburn to the wire, and we lose by less than two scores to UGA and Bama, who very likely will play for the CFP title again.

I do not expect this team to be a Butch team. This team is gonna be prepared, and they're gonna give people some fights. Get over the Battered Vol Syndrome and see what we DO have. The cupboard isn't bare. The talent is there. We hopefully have a coach now who knows how to use it.

I say 6 or 7. I would go higher but with new schemes I expect a slow start. Barring to many injuries I think we will do better in the back half of the season then the sports writers think.

We don’t know how to win yet, too soft. It will take Pruitt a couple of years to change the loser culture......5 or 6 wins max.

If we can beat WVU game 1, and we can IF we get interior D linemen penetrating the backfield disrupting Griers timing, and we can keep their score below 24, it'll be the confidence springboard this team needs. I'm gonna be positive and say we get that d line push, they pressure Grier by themselves much of the game, Warrior gets 2 ints, Tennessee wins game one for Coach JP...30-21!!!

I've been hearing g how we're going to toughen up and coach em up since 2005. I have to see it happen before I believe. Optimistically, 5-7. I only see three guaranteed wins, so it could be worse.

We beat GaTech last year but someone took the spring out of the board. Vols have done pretty well in these neutral site openers. I think this game and Missouri are key to whether Vols can get to a bowl game.

What basis are you using that Pruitt is a better head coach than Will Muschamp when Pruitt has never coached a game at this level in that capacity? I'm all for being excited about him and I like what he is doing on the recruiting field, and he seems to say all the right things. But, stop with the he's better than this guy or this guy when he has yet to coach for a single snap as a head coach.

I can go all out since I have no credentials!!! But, I think there will be some secret sauce mixed in with this team. And the operative word is TEAM. I been watching our opponent's games, and everyone looks vulnerable at some point. Teams seem invincible just looking at the win loss, but there are many factors that play into those results. Injuries, poor play calls, bad refereeing, untied shoelace. Just so many variables. Not trying to convince anybody, or nuthin'!!!

I think 6 because we’re not as deep as the biggest competition. With a tough schedule our guys will get hurt leading to inexperienced and undersized players getting the bulk of playing time. I hope I’m wrong.
First, I think we win less games than how many threads have been started asking this question. :)

Second, injuries are no excuse for losses.

I think 8 is possible, but I think 6 is what we end up with.

Trying to delete my duplicate post. I thought we could now delete posts?

I'm at five wins. Three cupcakes plus Vandy and Kentucky.

But we very easily could have more. Florida, South Carolina (not buying the hype, they have at least five losses on their schedule), West Virginia, and Missouri are toss-ups.

I believe 7 wins are possible. There are too many tangibles involved for anything more.

What scares me about everyone saying 8/9 wins is they are setting Pruitt up for failure, and will likely be calling for his head when we only win 6.

If we win 8 or 9, Pruitt should win best first year coach in history lol

If we win 8 or 9 games Phil needs to give that man a hefty raise.

I understand we have all become a little skeptical with the disaster UT football has been for the last decade, but I do think we have a competent staff in place than we have had during those years. No way we go undefeated, and I know there are at least 3 games, that barring some sort of miracle, we will lose. I do believe the other 9 are all winnable games. WV will be a tough game, and Grier can put up some big numbers without a doubt. However, I think Pruitt and company have already been game planning for them, coming up with a solid plan to limit their passing game, put Grier under as much pressure as they possibly can, plus the advantage of WV not knowing what our offense is going to look like, I think we come out with a win in a hard fought game. Florida is a very winnable game in my opinion, South Carolina, hard game in Columbia, but a win for the good guys, Kentucky, Missouri, Vandy should all be wins, as well as the lesser teams on the schedule. If it winds up 9-3, no doubt Pruitt should get Coach of the Year. Just my opinion.
