"There's a place for that "T" sticker on your pickup"

But not around here, T stands for Tigers....

Does anyone have the picture of the little boy with the 'T' on his cheek giving the bird? If some PM me, I would like to get it texted to my phone. Thanks

I don't blame them. What are they supposed to do, give up on growing their brand? It will be an uphill battle, though, if the football team performs well and the basketball team continues to elevate its level of play.

I hate these bash memphis threads. Don't see why so much hatred brews on the sidelines of two teams that aren't even rivals. Hell Vandy even seperates the two so it's not like it's a border war. I have Tiger season tickets and am looking forward to them having a good year. They've been bowling here lately and that's a big step up for a football program like theirs. I usually don't go if it conflicts with a televised UT game but it's still fun. For $90 you get tics to seven games (Friday night Louisville on ESPN), parking and tailgating are a breeze, and groups of friends can sit together in the stadium no problem. Good Times!

Don't know but I have heard the phrase "Nutt House" thrown around quite a bit lately. I really hope the Tigers ruin his first game. Can't believe that game isn't even on tv here in Memphis. No local channel, css, cbss, pay-per-view, NOTHING.

Usually those games come on channel nine or UPN 30 and the local guides don't show it....

That's silly, of course we're rivals with Memphis. Granted we put them in their place every time we've recently played the Tigers.

If people on both sides have to continually "remind" everyone how we are not rivals... well, then we are clearly rivals.

I call BS on this one. I know you got your tickets as your prize in your kid's happy meal. Tell the truth.

What? There's no clairification needed, we're rivals, certainly in hoops. Anyone fan who sees differently is just trying to downplay the importance of the other program, i.e. "UT has beat Memphis the last two years therefore it can't be a rivalry," or "UT has no tradition, we go to Final Fours, they've never been past the round of 16, therefore it can't be a rivalry."

Ya, I agree with you. I am saying that if members of both fanbases are constantly trying diss the other by dismissing them as irrelevant... that is evidence of a rivalry in itself.

It's not a rivalry because for starters they don't even play every year in football. Secondly the games have no significance as far as conference championships. But final proof that it is not a rivalry is that it would be impossible to be a fan of both if that were true. How many people say " oh yeah, I like UT and BAMA, or Texas and OU, or USC and UCLA". A lot of people, especially in Memphis, like both. Other than Kenny Chesney, nobody likes the Vols and the Gators.

You must have missed all the threads in basketball season where people jumped on others for dual loyalties.

ri·val /ˈraɪvəl/
noun, adjective, verb, -valed, -val·ing or (especially British) -valled, -val·ling. –noun

2. a person or thing that is in a position to dispute another's preeminence or superiority:

Tennessee leads the basketball "rivalry" 12-7.
Tennessee leads the football "rivalry" 20-1.

By the dictionary...Tennessee vs. Memphis ≠ Rivalry.
