Sarcasm? Star ratings mean nothing when there’s no development. he played behind a garbage offensive line so what little skill talent we do have wasn’t really able to get the ball. On top of that he played for a coaching staff that was incapable of effectively and consistently getting their playmakers the ball

And yet his individual stats are not much different than Chrysts...hmm.

Exactly. Difference? He was only a redshirt freshman. The JG hate baffles me

I don’t think anyone hates JG.

Just underwhelmed that he played 9 games and failed to reach 1000 yards and only threw 4 TDs.

Everyone wants to blame the staff and others surrounding him but JG shoulders plenty of blame himself

So do the WRs that dropped a lot of passes...but mostly the OL that played like mannequins.

I mean how was he ever going to succeed with all that going against him? He is not going to run like Dobbs...no one is...Dobbs was special.

Talent wise we are very comparable with a slight lean towards Stanford. Coaching it’s not even close. Shaw is a B+ or A- coach. Butch was a D.

I am not sure that Stanford has an edge in talent, but whatever. However, Shaw does play an old style NFL west coast type offense that emphasizes running. Andrew Luck only attempted 30 passes nine times in his first two seasons. He then attempted it nine times in his final year.

Unless they get down, a QB isn't slinging the ball around in that offense. So, it's really difficult to compare the numbers.

Even when the talent around you isn't great, you can still evaluate a QB. JG still has to learn pocket awareness. I don't care who the QB is- just win.

7 games. There were only 7 that he threw more than 10 passes. Hell really 6 because he got hurt in the USM game.

He threw the game winning td against Carolina. Johnson just didn’t catch a pass that hit him right in the hands. He had a solid game against KY and almost threw the game winning Hail Mary. Dude put up 250 against an LSU defense with a walk-on or two protecting him.

Was he amazing? Not at all, but are all of his flaws correctable? Absolutely. The main knock I’ve seen against him is “he holds the ball too long”. That’s a habit he will break as he gets more experience, especially in games

Imo if Pruitt wins 7 games in year 2 he will be on the hot seat regardless of year 1. I just don't see much difference in 6 or 7 wins in year 1.

Year 2 and 3 are HUGE for Pruitt

Unfortunately, I think you’re right about years two and three. We’re just not a very patient bunch.

Define succeed

Was he gonna lead us to the SEC title game last year? No

Did he miss a lot of throws, stand in the pocket way too long, and look like a bottom tier SEC QB last year? Yes

Truth be told, neither one of them are very good. Helton is going to have to make it work this year

It's kind of funny that this was stated because people have said that we have no talent. We do- it just wasn't developed. It can't be both ways. We have 4-5 stars all over the field.

If he isn’t starting and beating out a grad transfer then he has no chance of helping us win in 2019 if he stays.

Because in 2019 we would have:

Will McBride (RS Sophmore)
JT Shrout (RS Freshman)
Taulia (Freshman and not even currently committed to UT)

I would hope JG would stick around because would have a big bunch of "sorta" and a whole lot of "don't know" at the QB spot in 2019 if he transferred.

You having to bring up “almost” catches as highlights for JG last season kind of makes my point unfortunately

Hopefully Helton can flip his switch

When did he ever stand too long in the pocket though? When the other team was max pass defense? Because 90% of thhe time he didn't have time to blink, plus consider the middle school ppay calling and WRs dropping easy balls all the time..

I think we have a bunch of badly overrated guys that still could be solid players with great coaching. I also hope I'm dead wrong...we are going to find out in a few weeks though.

There were times when he had more than a "blink," but as a QB, when you don't have time you have to get rid of the ball and not take a sack. His awareness in certain situations was not the best. He can learn from it.

But, the bottom line is that everyone was to blame last year. Coaches, players, and even the QB.

RS freshman with zero quality coaching on a horrid team..

Here’s an interesting stat. Doesn’t take into account everything, but it’s very telling:

Chryst: sacked 20 times in 288 career attempts
JG: sacked 21 times in 94 career attempts

For those doing math, JG has been sacked 3.2 times as much per attempt as Chryst.

Exactly. I saw him stand back there and lock on one guy instead of read the D and going to the open guy if the primary was covered well. He had no clock in his head. All of that stuff can be taught to some QB's. Others never seem to get it. Which one is JG? How many games does it take to develop a clock in your head and go check down? I guess Helton and Pruitt will let us know.

Or...the OL is the worst I've ever seen?
