'19 WV OL Darnell Wright (Tennessee signee)

I feel like you ARE being a jerk, but whatever man... this is what sets him apart IMO...

They can move the kid all around the line just to plow... the defense knows exactly where the play is going and they know it's not a pass... it's a run... he blows two guys out of the d-line... and buckles a LB like a rag doll... I don't care the competition... shows me he can handle a D1 lineman one on one NP... more than that... shows me he has the awareness to not just stand over the guy he just buckled like he's King Kong... keep pushing! There's more than a few instances of it on film... when he hits that second level it REALLY is comical... everybody is a playtoy

While he's in pass pro, check him off the snap... QUICK... feet shuffling with confidence and balance, great agility in short space... you can't throw him off balance... long arms immediately up to the mid-chest ready to punch... when he punches the DL goes backward and his balance stays intact. Watch his tape... My old coach used to play Bruce Lee videos and that was what to strive for when blocking... you cut guys off with agility and angles, you strike quick and fast to keep them off their lines, you push through the back of the person when you punch... you ALWAYS stay balanced in your blocks.... if you go off balance you lost, we had some American Gladiator style platforms and sticks to practice balance with... it was fun but it taught you how to balance and strike quick and meaningful...

Look at his Nike camps... elite prospects everywhere... they have him at tackle stance in drills... he's got the agility vs fast guys to push them all around the outside... you're not getting to that cone... the strong guys can't push through him--they get pushed back...

On tape... from the tackle spot... he's got the push to maul on the run and the finesse to push around the pocket while maintaining balance...

It's true elite tape... I'd show it as a HS coach for how it's sposed to be done... if there was one thing I'd criticize in his technique from his tape, it'd be in the run blocking he loses balance fighting people to the ground when he should just displace them and hit the next level ...

Nobody in this class or the past that I was excited about enough to check the tape on the top 20 linemen have impressed me this much... this kid's coming out of high school with going to the NFL credentials
I wasn’t being a jerk.. I seriously wanted to know what you had seen on the kid. People come on here and say “I have seen tape on this guy blah blah blah.. “ and they don’t know jack..

However, I still want to hear what they see because maybe they know something they just don’t know the lingo.

You obviously know what you are talking about. I have not seen his tape yet. I enjoyed your comment sir.

Really though... is it a CRAZY thing to say a projected overall #2 LT projected kid in his class is gonna be R1P1 if he's coached right? Watch his tape vs some other top prospects... he's next level ready already... it's weird and scary

There is a long way to go till he gets there. However, I see what you mean. He is long and athletic. I would teach him to roll that shoulder forward so it helps him drop back lower and extend that left leg back about another 6”... however he can every bit be a top pick if he continues to progress.

Good leg kick but like every HS guy relays on his strength a little much. Good balance and can strike fairly well seems like his arm length is longer than the typical NFL 33”... VERY GOOD FEET. I actually really like him at DT as well...

Also, did you see Trey Smith film?

That's something I noticed as well but my eye is untrained. It seems like pancakes aren't always the best policy when you can do like you said and displace and move on. I saw a few instances where he tangled up and rather than falling down just threw the guy to the ground. In my untrained opinion, that would seem better in many cases. I enjoyed your explanations.

Price said on the VQ podcast that he thinks, in the end Wright will be the #1 overall player in the nation.

he will not be wrong.

I think we have a truly great chance to end up with 3 in the top 10 with Wanya eventually entering the top 10 after yet another dominant season.

This class could be silly

No, you can’t do that. You can’t mess with an old man who has a bad ticker and get him all excited like that.

Wright camped at UNC this weekend...

"It was fun out here," Wright said. "It was nothing but working out and playing dodgeball with everyone. Coach Kap is a pretty good coach. He coaches everybody up well and he tries to explain things in a simple form. The players out here were pretty good. "With Billy (Ross, his former teammate) here it makes me more comfortable," he said. "In this environment, I would have somebody here to relate to.

"I'll probably try to get down to Georgia, Clemson, Miami and some of the other farther places," said Wright. "I'll go down to Alabama sometime in the next month or two. I'll be down at Tennessee at some point too. I don't have any set dates. They're doing well with recruiting. Tennessee is stepping it up right now. I don't think many people expected them to get this many players after last year.

"Wanya Morris (a five-star offensive tackle currently committed to Tennessee) looks pretty good," he said. "I don't really know him but I met him one time. He was pretty funny and seemed like a cool dude. He could hold down one side and I could hold down the other but we'll see how things turn out."

As far as Wright's recruitment goes, Tennessee, Alabama, and North Carolina have been Wright top three contenders for some time and that is unlikely to change as the 2019 recruiting cycle moves forward. North Carolina really helped themselves by refreshing, in Wright's mind, how strong his relationships are in Chapel Hill and how comfortable he can feel in that environment. He seemed very relaxed and everything looked very familiar to him. It will still be an uphill battle for the Tar Heels to land his commitment over Tennessee and Alabama but they definitely put their best foot forward.

Write up on his camp performance from Rivals...

DARNELL WRIGHT IS STILL ELITE

Five-star Darnell Wright, the top ranked offensive lineman in the Rivals100, hasn’t done any camps this spring but hasn’t lost a step. The No. 2 prospect in America was outstanding at the UNC Freak Show on Saturday night. He took one or two reps to get adjusted to the speed and strength of the competition and then didn’t lose another rep the entire night. Wright’s athleticism, aggressiveness, and the way he plays with an edge made it clear to everybody in attendance that he was head and shoulders above the rest of the group.

So he's randomly throwing multiple instances of Tennessee out there in a comment about how his North Carolina visit went, huh?

By the time he gets here the lines at Bama and Tennessee will be pretty much indistinguishable.

I said it.

That’s the thing. We have the talent. Needed the coaching. Then Freind showed up.

You’re very optimistic. Outside of Trey Smith and Kennedy who else would be a Bama type lineman? Wright, Morris, and Lampley will help but it’ll take 3 classes of those guys to have Bama depth
