What irritates you the most at restaurants?

You covered it. I was curious about the pooling but think I answered it myself.

I have no clue about casino's. Zilch.

I do know that my servers tipped out 2% of their net food sales and 1.5% of their LBW sales. At their end of shift checkout they gave the MOD their tip out. The LBW totals were diveded between the bartenders. The food totals between the bussers.

Total tip out amount 200.00
2 bussers, 1 worked 4 hours the other 6. That's 10 hours total which is 20 an hour. Bussers 1 gets 80 (20×4) and the other gets 120.

Jesus man... Really? And you think this is the way to go about it?

I'm done trying to convince you. Clearly you see traits like empathy, compassion and patience for strangers as being "weak" so I can't help you see reason any more than you want to. At least try and be polite if you're going to stiff someone.

Are there Cliff's Notes to this thread?

:)

Biopsy doesn't know how to behave at a restaurant. He started this thread to gain validation for his backwards views. Some restaurant people chimed in to try and help him see reason. He wasn't having it. Now it's all jokes.

That about sums it up.

Was gonna mention that earlier, but figured if they dont give a chit about tipping them, it probably makes them feel better knowing they lost money.

True. It probably would make their night to know they cost a server even more money than they already had by not tipping.

Yea, I don't think you have any idea what they realize.

A large number, in my experience, get used to making 100+ CASH in a 5-7 hour night and its hard to give it up.

Restaurant business can be an addiction.

Lol.

I've been blessed.

I guess I'm too type B to really care about the service. A restaurant really rides or dies with the quality of food for me.

For example, there is a Mexican restaurant we frequent that has terrible service (but great eye candy) and fantastic food. We might joke about the service and the eye candy but the food is what makes us continually come back.

Which Mexican restaurant is this?

There is no limit time to your table time whether you have a reservation or not..

Are you serious with this comment?

Are you Italian?

Lulz.

Are you referring to the 100 + a shift part? "My experience" dates back to the early 80's when $100 cash for 6 hrs was big money.

Or the "addicted" part? Were you drinking at work when you posted this?

Bich, bich, moan, I know more about everything than you, you don't know chit. I've done it all, you haven't done chit. I can solve the world's problems without even trying, you don't live in this world. It's been somewhat entertaining, yet sad in prima donna kind of way. Carry on

If it really is that big of a deal to you, I suggest you order your appetizers and tell the server to come back for your entree order. In fact, if you want to be completely safe, don't order your entree until you are finished with your appetizers.

And for the record, those servers are bringing you your entree at that point so your food doesn't die in the window. The kitchen finished it too early so it really is a question of whether they let it dry out under the heat lamps or risk annoying you by potentially making you feel rushed.

I do that all the time... more so at the mid-range level restaurants because fine dining places will get the pacing right far more often than not.

When I go out, I want to leave a generous tip. Who wants to feel like a cheap bastard? I'll forgive a lot, and I don't blame the wait staff for things they obviously couldn't control. All I ask, treat me with respect, and don't leave me hanging on refills. And as for the latter, I understand they get busy, but if I have an empty glass in front of me for 10-15 minutes, I'm not going to be a happy customer.

My way of thinking, treat people like you would want to be treated.

Out of curiosity, for those in the business, what do you feel is the best remedy for lousy service? Address the server? I always thought that would put them in a bit of an awkward situation and put them on the defensive, probably making the situation worse. Talk to a manager? I'm always afraid that might get them in trouble, and possibly fired if others have complained as well. I mean, if they're that awful, maybe they need to be let go, but I don't want to be the one to cause them to lose their job. So other than docking their tip, something I've only done a few times in my life, what do you do to avoid causing bigger problems?

Depends on the circumstances weez. I mean, we're talking about eating dinner at a restaurant, not heart surgery.

Are we talking lousy as in, the server spilled hot coffee down your shirt and in your lap? Or the server saw your tea was half empty and while you were talking to someone else at the table he/she filled it..oh no, now you have to figure out how to sweeten it. That bish.

As a patron I'm easy. But if there is something that could ruin my experience, I would tell my server up front. Don't think you should have to do that? Don't.
