'19 FL PG Tre Mann

Not a shock at all. He's from florida and a connection to an assistant coach was never a huge deal.


The biggest take away here is how on earth did he leave the florida visit without committing to them?

I guess White has a hard time closing as well.

Too many times we have swung and missed and then when we finally hit we pretend it was the guy we wanted all along.

No, I get it, and I started to mention that much in my earlier post but it was getting long-winded. No more shame in losing a Gainesville kid to Florida than losing a Memphis kid to UM. We just heard about how much he liked Tennessee and we were the supposed leaders and I just really believed this was the big one where the staff broke thru the wall, nationally.

Tandy would be a nice get, but I just wonder how much of a PG he really is vs a combo guard. Mann seemed like more of a PG, which is obviously a big need for us.

I blame VQ for leading us to believe we had a real inside connection to this kid. I think they even believed it because they later had to correct themselves

If Tandy can develop as a PG he is a Top 40 player, if he doesn’t he’s gonna stay in that 75 range as more of a CG ala Lamonte Turner.

Whichever one chooses us will be our first choice. Even if we go after the other guy first.

If we miss on both and end up with no one it will be because we wanted it that way.

We work our list from the bottom up. Next May we should really know who the staff is after.

Is it not possible that they liked multiple guys? Clearly Mann was closest to doing something, so they brought him in on an OV...I don’t necessarily think it means he was head and shoulders above Tandy or Lewis on their board. This just seems like you taking a stance that no matter where we go from here it’s another fail and I don’t think that can be determined as of today, JMO. If we don’t land anyone off the board I’ve posted and continue further and further down the list there’s no denying we missed on a lot of guys, doesn’t mean we can’t still be good but will definitely mean there were some misses.

We can’t close the deal.

Glad we are more active this spring. That’s what it takes when you miss as often as we do for the coveted guys. Hope we get some guys soon.

Sure, Bleed may protect him, but that isn’t what you said to make that point. You dramatized his opinion such that it became something entirely different.

If we miss on Mann and land Lewis or Tandy, it isn’t automatically a failure or a whiff. He isn’t wrong by saying that. And it isn’t a baseless defense of Barnes. All three were guys we targeted early. We chose one of them who had expressed interest in Tennessee and in making an early decision. Missing on him doesn’t doom the class in May.

Like I’ve already said, if we don’t land guys on the board I’ve posted and have to sign guys in spring not on our radar than absolutely we’ve had some misses/whiffs. If that happens and Barnes still finds recruits he can turn into SEC level players then he’s a hell of an evaluator/developer, doesn’t mean we aren’t missing on guys in the fall and could improve though.

That was just sarcasm on my part.

I really like our target list for 2019. I'm gonna try to keep that in mind and not get to concerned with this miss. (I'm conceding Mann to Florida)

I just really want us to prioritize some coveted guys and get them.

As we all do, like I said there were multiple guards on our board, I don’t pretend to know how the staff ranked them. I know none of them except Mann have taken any OV’s, he has taken 2, so it would appear he obviously let it be known he was ready to end things whether that be us or not...we scheduled the OV just like I think we would’ve for any of the guys on our board I’ve listed, doesn’t necessarily mean Mann was above the others.

We were ready to take his commit. Top 50 player.
Tweeting out pics while he was on the visit using the coach's son that he's a buddy with in the photo. I would bet he was at the top of the board.
