Pruitt is cool and all but he’ll realize here soon he’s got to build a winner. The kid looked a lot better than last year. If he goes with Chryst thinking he’s going to lead us to an East title we’re in for a bumpy ride. Competition/Pressure is fine or what not but he’s got to stop acting like NONE of the guys are good. Callaway is a flat out STUD at WR and should be one of the premier playmakers in the Country. Not a lot of WRs you would want over him physically and mentally as far as being a playmaker.

We don’t look bad on offense and will look much better with Bituli leading the charge.

The LBs were flying in on running plays. He won’t be missing those tackles if Tuttle is freeing him up like that. I think Kongbo still looks the same. Smh lol

Damn breakerboy you need to stick to coaching individuals. Pruitt is acting like nobody is good because he wants someone to step up and be a leader.

His interview yesterday he said: one day I won’t have to police these guys they will do it themselves. He’s treating everyone exactly the same and looking for a few leaders to step up and take this team over.

I haven’t been on the field since the early 90’s and it’s simple for me to see what he’s doing.

It’s gonna take time regardless. You don’t need special QB play to win in college.

You do need special QB play to win games when you aren't superior in talent. We need special QB in a bad way unless we are content winning 5-7games for multiple years and I ain't

Chryst definitely proved that at Stanford.

18-6 TD/int split is pretty solid overall.

In 2016 chryst was much better. I’m not gonna regurgitate his stat line but the one that sticks out to me is in 2016 he had 41 rushing attempts for 159 yards (plus 3 TD). Then blows knee out in the sun bowl.

Fast forward to 2017 and in 7 games he had 19 attempts for -5 yards. He was doing full practice activities in July according to Shaw. That makes me think he rushed back and never really was the same and it had a negative impact on him.

You have to have superior talent anyway even with a special QB. See USC and UClA.

Most of his passes in 2016 went to Christian McCaffery behind the LOS. And by far his best game in 2017 was the first game of the season so the rushing it back thing is a little over blown imo.

USC did win. We just need to do what A&M did with JM to a lesser scale to keep this thing afloat. We can't do what Florida just did the past 4 years because we don't have the defense. JP can't survive without a good QB in the next 3-4 years

He wasn’t really better that year either. He had two good games: against an Oregon defense that gave up 41 points per game and against a 3-9 Rice squad.

His injury probably did slow him down a bit last year. The TD/INT ratio is nice, too. Still, you’d hope a QB surrounded by all the talent he was could do more than he did. Basically all of his starts at Stanford were against teams they easily outclassed.

I’m not sure his 2016 season is much much, of any, better than JG’s 2017 when you consider the situations each guy was in.

McCaffery cought a lot of passes out of the slot.... and averaged 3 catches for a little over 20 yards when chryst was QB in 2017. So i woulld hardly say most but hey it sounded good for your narrative.

Way too big of a deal being made about Pruitt’s comments.

Yep. Tennessee football is in bootcamp . Tear you down and build you back up. Constant pressure to do things the right way all the time. Pruitt will flip the script when the time is right. Fire breathing players and fire breathing fans! Gonna be glorious. GBO!

Hey guys, what Chryst did at Stanford doesn't matter anymore. He's a Vol. And what he does this summer and fall is all that matters now. None of us know what exactly is going to happen but neither did Pittsburgh fans when Nathan Peterman transferred and that worked out alright for them. Maybe Chryst just needs a new start and it works out nicely for Tennessee...

Those were completed because he threw behind. When the CB has positioned themselves well like that, you throw behind to the back shoulder. That was good placement. If he doesn't throw behind, the cb would have made a play on the ball.

You don’t throw to the back shoulder on an out route when the CB is trailing you lol

When fans stop expecting every pass to be on target they’ll realize how good our QBs are at times. Dobbs for example was ridiculed by fans. Dude is one of the best to ever wear the Orange at QB. Picks happen at times because of a bad throw or so but bad decisions are my main concern with any QB.

I’m not expecting everything to be on target but on a 5 yard out route the ball needs to be placed to where only our receiver can make the play, it does not need to be thrown behind the receiver where the DB can easily pick it off and take it back for 6

McCaffery only had about 300 receiving yards in 2016 overall.

His biggest contribution to the QBs he played with was that he was the primary concern for opposing defenses and took a lot of pressure of QBs.

FWIW, it took Peterman 2 years to turn into the QB who got drafted.

Chryst has won a lot more games than any other qb on our roster. I think a new start will be good for him and likely for us

Also prob in JGs best interest to have one more year in this system before starting. It’s okay to wait till your a junior to start

It's pretty clear watching his 2016 highlights vs 2017 that he is favoring the knee in 2017.

I want JG to be the guy even if he isn't better for at least the first 3-4 games. We have to see if he can be the future

I'm not necessarily arguing with you, but I would expect JG to join Hurts as a free agent if he doesn't start. My only caveat to this is if Chryst completely dominates the pre-season QB competition.

Like Darth said, if JG can't take control as the starter with his head start, he probably doesn't deserve to start. But that doesn't mean he will hang around. He'll likely head elsewhere for his own "fresh start".

Gets it. :good!:

1) Anybody who has had ACL reconstruction (I have) knows it takes the vast majority of normal human beings two years to recover 95+% of the former usage. Source - Dr. Gregory Mathien - who performs most knee surgeries on UT athletes who also learned his craft from Dr. Bill Youmans, one of the leading surgeons in the field.

2) Chryst is walking into a new system he has studied in advance before accepting the offer. If Helton truly knows what he is doing he targeted Chryst due to his belief that he has the abilities to handle the system well. He had already watched all of the film available on both JG and Chryst. It could also be that Helton knows more about quality QB play than the staff at Stanford. We will soon find out.

None of this means he will start over JG. It means there will be a real competition between the two. That is great, especially since the alternative to JG failing is McBride or a true freshman in Shrout with Chryst being here.

JG took the coaching from Helton very well IMO. We just don't know yet if it will continue and how that will translate during real games. We have a better idea with Chryst since Stanford is a successful program, whiles ours was not.

He was 1st or 2nd on the team in receptions almost every game chryst played. He didn't complete a lot of passes so 3 receptions led the team. Haha
