Recruiting Forum Football Talk LVII

Pruitt was in the Nation last night with Low and Price.

Boy he hates these interviews lol zero excitement in his voice. Sounded like he just woke up from a nap.

They asked him about his message to fans on Saturday. Paraphrasing but He said " we have great fans something like 65K I mean that's great. Went on to say " but we are trying to be The Best and we weren't" basically saying we can't just talk about being the best we got to actually do it.

We wanted someone with high expectations and folks we got him. He expects his team and everyone involved to want to be #1 and anything less isn't enough.

Dude, you might be right after reading that Bogle article on VQ. I have a slight glimmer of hope.

I love the positivity but recruits tell other recruits whatever they want to hear all the time. You don't think Morris has been telling Auburn commits and recruits that he'll be back this summer? C'mon man, this is the game!

I don’t care what Morris says. Don’t trust anything out of his mouth. It’s what Bogle said that made me do a double take.

I like the fact that he didn’t back down from his comments

If it’s just recruits telling other recruits what they want to hear, and as has been suggested previously, recruits telling coaches whatever they want to hear....

If that is the belief, then why read or post all these stories? Why follow recruiting at all?

I don’t disagree that some recruits are this way, but I’m not going to paint with such a broad brush and assume all recruits do. I tend to more often than not trust someone with what they say.

Fully believe Morris will be a Volunteer when all said and done.

I agree here. He clearly liked the turnout, but if you are ever satisfied you lose. There is always room for improvement and next year we fans should do our best to up our Spring Game Attendance. I don't know what schedules will look like a year from now but If I can go, I will and take my family.

Now, we just need Phil to de-Bamafy Pruitt some more and do an Orange Blood Transfusion and we will have ourselves a coach.

Agreed. I was talking about the 1s but there were a bunch of guys on the 2s that impressed. Alontae definitely stood out. Hard to judge the front on the 2s because the ol they went up against was incomplete to put it nicely.

Yes, for sure. But Bain and Alexis Johnson were very disruptive, I thought. Still, you and I might have been disruptive against that second string OL.

And for Hyams, remember he was the one reporting the TK suicide attempt. He’s stooped to TMZ-level reporting, and he sucks at it.

He should have zero credibility with anybody after the Brohm debacle. They were sniffing his jock on the Ainge show this morning. I think it was Tyler Ivins claiming that Jimmy is as good as anybody when it comes to estimating crowd sizes at Neyland. He said national media outlets consult him because he is uncannily good at it. Another complete load of crap because I am sure he is being roundly criticized over his estimate. Ainge was tacitly ignoring any comments on the attendance figure. He also seemed to have no trouble with Pruitt's comments about the fans.

Put simply, Pruitt has high expectations that don’t stop with his players or coaches, or even himself. He expects everyone involved with the program, even a fan to be 100% committed. He’s calling us out too because we have ownership.

I am a pretty big homer, too, but I just thought it was unnecessary. He doesn't need to tell Vols fans to show up. We do that.

The spring game attendance was nothing unusual.

Fair enough. You seem to be a reasonable poster so I will respect your opinion on this one.

I think Sean Brown is all Vol. Ramel Keyton as well. Both are likely silents.

I’ll catch hell for this but f-it. I think Wanya could be one as well. If not a silent, then the staff feels real good about where we are.

While it would be absolutely epic if he were trolling Auburn, I highly doubt it. You never know. It's likely not totally over until December.

The bad part is. I like listening to Hyams way more than any other Knoxville voice. Sucks that he’s so wish washy

Why follow recruiting? Because it's fun and we're all addicted. I like knowing who all the players are on the team, and I like knowing a good bit about our rivals, other SEC/regional teams. I know more about the rosters at Clemson, Georgia and Florida than most of their fans. Most of us on VN do. I like being educated about CFB. Makes it more enjoyable to watch on Saturdays in the fall.

Back to this thing of recruits saying one thing and doing another...that's how all this goes. Many recruits feel comfortable at multiple places, really like multiple coaching staffs, fanbases, locations, etc...but they can only choose one. Morris isn't going to go into great detail of what he's thinking with some DL from Florida who he's talking with on a recruiting trip. He's going to keep it light and fun and positive..."Hell yeah man, we're going to run things here in Knoxville/Auburn/Clemson/Athens!"

Recruiting isn't a science, it's an art. Nothing is black and white when dealing with teenage elite athletes being courted by the Top CFB programs. They say one thing and do another ALL THE TIME. Better get used to it...

As Omar would say, "All in the game, yo"

Need to get this off my mind since it seems to be topic lately. FWIW.

Does CJP act like he is satisfied with anything? Has he ever? Not to my knowledge, He's always had a very pronounced edge. Successful people are rarely satisfied for long. That's one of many reasons why they are successful. See Nick Saban and Urban Meyer for examples.

JMO - He knows the fan base has suffered a long time. He was on two SEC staffs that experienced it first hand by playing against UT and in Neyland for years. How do you get people to pull out of their whiny funks whether they are players or fans? Sell them on brick by brick, champions of life and such? Nope, the schtick's been done and we see where it led. Petting bandwagon fans rarely helps for long. For long term gain you call them out along with the whiny media that loves to stir the pot. You go with put up or shut up, the buck stops here. When the marginal players start leaving this spring/summer, he knows the media will be back to stir some more. But it will be too late for VFL fans because he has set the tone with the program, the media and the fan base. You are either in or you are out. If he/staff are successful and develop a tough team that never quits that wins a fair share of games despite the situation- he knows most all of the fans will finish being all in. The media has no choice at that point. Hyams, Adams, Pennington, Griff and all of that bunch of useless losers will be farts in the wind.

The only media that matters to me on anything Vols is VQ and 24/7 along with my VN RF cohorts on here.

Gross, Hyams has always sounded dull as a 3 month razor and that whole mix of pretentious/drawl in his voice make me want to karate chop his larynx. Hard pass.
