Pruitt not happy with Spring Game attendance

You do realize there is this thing called the internet to search for the answer to your questions right, because the population of the knoxville metropolitan statistical area has a much larger population than 200,000.

That can mean anything in terms of size..the population of the city of knoxville isn't anywhere near that. Fyp...

Suck it up people. Everybody wanted a FOOTBALL coach and it seems we finally have one. I think he is trying to toughen up both the players and fan base and neither is going to be easy. The weak will leave, the strong will stay and the path forward will begin there.

Lol, yeah after the last decade this fanbase clearly lacks toughness. Lok

This thread is awesome.

Fan A: Pruitt probably shouldnt be calling out fans.

Fan B: you stupid f'ing snowflake, stop being sensitive, why are you revolting and turning on the coach. Stop overreacting and blowing things out of proportion you stupid idiot snowflake, you wanna fight?

Fan B is the poster child for the dumbing down of our society

Ok I'll break it down for you. The U.S. census bureau often times creates these little things called metropolitan statistical areas, that doesn't mean that they have a metropolitan government like in Nashville and Davidson county, just that the town's in that statistical area live in what can be considered a metro area focused around knoxville. Meaning many of the people that work in Knoxville itself can't live there due to the area involved so they live in suburbs and those are often counted into the population of a statistical area. Basically while the actual footprint of the city is only so large, the area around it is so interlinked that it could be considered as one.

Sure, city of Knoxville = est. 186,239 in 2016.
While Knoxville metro area = est. 868,546 in 2016.

Which number should we use when talking about people who live within a nice short drive of Neyland Stadium?

As a fella who doesn't mind driving 2 1/2 hours from Lebanon (well outside both those areas), I'm thinking the latter (metro area) is more reasonable for this conversation.

So, yeah. 850k or so. About right.

I watched the quote in context.
Dick move. Think before you speak.

He could have said it so many ways that would have sounded better.

Hell, what do expect from a Bammer.

Grow a pair. Nothing wrong with what he said. Although given the fragile feelings of people these days, maybe we should not have wanted a real football coach. Maybe we needed another life champion that will coddle the fans.

Thank you, my point all along is that if you live in Knoxville metro, you are close enough to drive to the game, and there are at least 868,000 more than close enough.

He doesn't need to be worried about the fan base at this point. The fan base has been terrific through the last 10 years. Even more so, it has been as tough as nails as we've endured enough BS play to last a lifetime

Pruitt needs to concentrate on the team.

I always get a laugh when some yahoo fan thinks he knows what's best for all the fans.

Pruitt earned the right to complain the second he signed on to take over the s*** show called TN Vol Football. If it had been Gruden saying it, most would be salivating on him. Get over it, right now, according to his contract and his role with Vol FB, he's the HMF in charge. Until he proves otherwise, he's the man hired.

Dude 65k showed up to a spring game which is nothing more than practice. That number was good for 5th in the nation.

The guy thinks he is Saban already. Win some games first.

We've had our disagreements in the past, but you have been THE MAN on this thread. I really have to hand it to you, because you are really up against it with some of these guys.

And still, you don't get it. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT THIS FAN BASE HAS DONE FOR THE PAST 100 YEARS. If you don't show up now, then you are not currently doing all you can to support the team. If you are not supporting the team are you truly a Fanatic?

Any fan who was offended or upset with what CJP said does clearly lack emotional toughness.

I don’t care that he said it; I just don’t understand why he said it.

He acted as if there were 20k people there. UT was top 5 in attendance. He should be grateful considering there is not really much to be excited about.

Whats his record as a " real football coach?"

Irrelevant to me. If that matters to you, then so be it. You can contnue another futile argumnet about him being just a coordinator but it will fall on deaf ears again. He is the head coach at the University of Tennessee. He is a real football coach.

Why is it when people share their opinion, if its different than yours the person is either upset of offended? Is it possible the person just believes a rookie head coach shouldnt be calling out the fans for a spring game, but is neither personally upset or offended? Nevermind that sounds too reasonable, lets go make to cursing and fighting.

Here we go with the “true” fan argument.

That was his opinion and he shared it. He could have given us another cliche or coach speak but he didnt.

He should be grateful for what? Remember, we came after him. He wasnt knocking down our door begging for a job.
