NCAA Approves 2018 Kickoff Rule Change; Impacts Fair Catches Within 25-Yard Line | Bleacher Report | Latest News, Videos and Highlights

New rule for college football starting this year. The rule states that if a player calls for a fair catch anywhere between the end zone and the 25-yd line on a kick-off that it can be ruled as a touchback. NCAA passed it to help protect players. The game continues to get ruined.

Ridiculous. We'll probably be out there playing two hand touch in thirty years. It's a decision these these guys are making to play. If you get hurt, you get hurt. Live with the results.

"Need that rule for punts, too."

Not sure why anyone is complaining about this rule because I’m having a hard time envisioning it being used.

I can see someone call fair catch if the ball lands inside the 5, but that’s about it.

This seems extraneous more than anything. A dumb rule that doesn’t accomplish anything and will rarely be used.

Agreed. It's hard for me to imagine any returners taking too many touchbacks when they catch the ball outside of the end zone. It's a dumb rule, but I'll be surprised if it has a very noticable effect.

I agree...I was reading all the responses and thinking, "it doesn't say you have to call for a fair catch." There will probably be some coaches who aren't confident in their return units and will instruct their KRs to always call for a fair catch if it's inside the 10, but I think there will still be plenty of kick returns. Moving the kickoff up five yards hurt the action much more than this rule will.

This for Sarge...

My next door neighbor called and asked if I could help unload an elliptical he had delivered. When I get over there a guy gets out of the truck with a Blackhawks hat on. I laughed and said “we better hurry up so you can get home to watch the playoffs.”

Agree with everything you said. My thoughts as well.

I could be talked into it. Hell I'll probably go. Just wish I knew fellow Vols fans in the area to roll with. I'd rather punch myself in the nuts for three hours than go with my current girlfriend. Tried watching the Super Bowl with her.... painful.

Your post needs a little explaining.
She talked too much?
Asked stupid questions?
Wouldn’t perform fell a she yo during commercials?
What’s the story?

Yeah... returners want to run that thing out

Looks like AT is embracing the CB move, even though reports are he goes back to WR eventually.

But if that comparison came from Pruitt - which seems logical since he coached Ramsey, then I really don’t think AT ever goes back to receiver.

I hope he stays at cb and has some packages on offense. Which is what Pruitt sounds like he wants.

Agreed, that would be ideal. He has high potential at WR but he also does at CB and he’s needed more at CB. Pruitt said he needs to get his best athletes on the field no matter the position. Wouldn’t surprised me to see him stick at CB if he performs well.
