Jeremy Pruitt should win National Coach of the Year if he gets this team to 6 wins.

This is the worst roster in UT history - or damn close.
Exact same page.
I think this roster is full of quitters and over rated busts, and they didn't get much help in the incoming class either. You can't make chicken salad out of chicken crap, no matter how great a chef you are...well you can but you are going to get a nasty surprise when you take a bite.

It is going to take a couple of years to cycle out the garbage and get enough talent to be a threat to anybody with a pulse. There are no sure SEC wins on our schedule this year imo..
I have not said our whole team sucks, that is a misunderstanding, admittedly my fault for not explaining my perceptions better.*

I think we are good, but not very good or great at WR, but I do think we could become very good, and maybe even borderline great with the talent there and good coaching, which it seems we are getting.

I think we are good at RB, but very shallow depth is going to be a concern.

I think are meh at TE, with zero depth.

I think we are good at LB, but once again very shallow.

I think we are great at one Safety spot and blech to meh at the other, and once again..zero depth.

I think we are blech at CB till proven otherwise...excluding Shamburger, I think he will be good...and no depth.

I think we are meh right now along DL, with a chance to become really good as coaching and takes hold.

I think the OL is the worst position on the team till it's proven otherwise and without Smith it is a total disaster. I hope and believe they can get better with better coaching, but it is hard not to improve on the completely horrid play we got last season.

And finally nobody can accuse me of criticizing JG at QB. I have defended him. I don't see how he could have performed much better with the garbage OL and WR play he had to work with, plus the crap playcalling and coaching he received. He has potential to be a great QB still I think.

Now that is how I feel, I am not a troll...I very well could be wrong, unlike true negavols I want to be proven wrong..especially about the OL. I hope they miraculously turn into a bunch of scrappy tough players that nobody wants to tangle with, but I just don't see it happening now.

Backpedaling or just finally coming around? :)

Pretty sure he was like 20 in HS. Remember seeing something that was like Calvin Ridley type

I copy our roster to excel every year and last year's roster listed him as a sophomore and 20 years old. I don't know if that's accurate but its what was on the 2017 roster. According to his bio on UTSports.com his birthday is September 30, 1996. That would seem to make him 21 right now and turning 22 on Sunday following the Georgia game this year. He's listed as a junior this year. If I work backward to his signing date on February 3, 2016, it looks like he would have been 19 after having turned 19 at the end of September of his senior season in high school. Technically speaking the day after your 19th birthday you're working on your 20th year so it appears absolutely correct to say he was still in high school after his 19th birthday.

I think I did this right but sometimes I confuse myself with math. :)

Announced yesterday, pending approval:
  • John Compton, former CEO of Pilot Flying J travel centers and current partner with Clayton, Dubilier and Rice
  • Kara Lawson, former Lady Vol and current basketball television analyst for ESPN and the Washington Wizards
  • Donnie Smith, former President and Chief Executive Officer of Tyson Foods
  • Sharon Pryse, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of The Trust Company
  • Kim White, President and Chief Executive Officer of River City Company
  • Bill Rhodes, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of AutoZone
  • Melvin Malone, former Special Tennessee Supreme Court Justice and current practice group leader with Butler Snow LLP
  • Bill Evans, former Director and Chief Executive Officer of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
  • Raja Jubran, Chief Executive Officer of Denark Construction
  • Brad Lampley, former Tennessee Volunteers football player and current partner in charge of the Nashville office of Adams and Reese, LLP
I'd call that stacking the deck.

Wait... what is this? New BOT? Wtf do any of them know about running a university? Kara Lawson?!?

I’m curious about terms, etc. Don’t know the guy from Butler Snow, but I’ve indirectly received some correspondence from that firm before.

Ulysses is good people. He’s been beat down over the years like the rest of us, which gives him a little more pessimistic approach.

I don’t blame him one bit, I find myself there more often than I’ll admit. Winning cures all and I sure hope Pruitt is the guy to do it.

Same. People need to quit piling on the guy.

I don't even have D4H on ignore, but you might be my first.

Seriously, I can't tell what it is about you.. your need to be right, your "sorry not sorry" sometimes flawed matter-of-fact-ness, or (what's been obvious in your posts today) your pessimism that you paint as optimism. Your existence on this board equates to a backhanded compliment. You have the nicest thoughts and feelings about UT, but it only comes out in a negatively framed argument. It's annoying to read through, because I can't tell if you're a 17 year old who thinks they're right about everything, or a 57 year old who thinks they're right about everything.

Nice 😎 I'm 50 by the way.

Looking a little deeper into the bylaws of the BOT, there are several committees they are responsible for. Likely the reason you see Lampley and Lawson are that they will serve especially for the athletics committee. These meetings are open to the public, but they only give recommendations to the BOT, who does the actual voting. Interesting role for the BOT and athletics committee:

While retaining its ultimate responsibility for oversight of the University’s intercollegiate athletics programs, the Board has delegated direct responsibility for administration and control of the intercollegiate athletics programs to the Chancellor of each campus with an intercollegiate athletics program. The Board has also charged the President with general administrative oversight of the intercollegiate athletics programs and with holding the Chancellors accountable for their performance with respect to the intercollegiate athletics programs.

I honestly don't know. Some guys like Richmond have surprised me, but some have not. One thing I've learned is that it sucks to get on the wrong side of the VN lynch mob. Wrong or not I'm being honest, I don't care who it pisses off. I will admit when I'm wrong, and I will change my mind when somebody shows me a better way from a different perspective.

Thanks..I appreciate that.

Heh...Sleegro is right. I do bring some of it on myself. My BVS is real and it sucks.

However I think crap like what Chism said is over the line though. I really want to be positive, but I just see too many problems to be very positive about this coming season, and that manifests itself as a negative slanted ambiguity. If it sounds conflicted or confusing, it is because that is how I feel as a die hard Volunteer fan.

I like him but he’s gotta pull himself up. Getting too far off the ledge not just in it. I want to see it get done on the field before going bonkers for a coach but I don’t think we are a 4 win team again either.

He is not the only the one thinking we are a 4 or 5 win team tbh. Just because a guy is negative doesnt mean he is wrong. Being positive all the time isnt going to make us win any more games than being negative about the season so I dont really know why people that are more pessimistic get jumped. That is all I was saying.

If we lose eight again I'm gonna lose it. I don't think four wins is acceptable or should be expected at all. I have said that many times.

Butch almost won 7 last year. Let that sink in. 7 wins is not overly positive. 15-0 is.
