I do agree with Bruin.

I am not getting too up or too down based on these practice reports.

I love reading them because it is interesting and something to pass the time until the season opener.

But the proof will be the product on the field. The old eyeball test.

Pruitt isn’t brining in some magic dust or deer antler spray to suddenly turn this into a championship team by changing a few things at practice.

Most of us were thrilled with Butch’s practice and his microphone use or his brick by brick antics.

Now they seem childish and foolish. Makes Pruitt look like a real coach. But that is mainly because he is the new shiny toy and we hope like “heck” he is the one.

I personally think Pruitt has assembled a teaching and recruiting staff.

The key will be player development and if he can unlock their potential then he is the one and we will all be very pleased (until he leaves LOL)

But until then I will need to see it with my own eyes before I get too excited.

Concur. Bottom line is that we’ve seen this now too many times in the past decade. Again, Pruitt needs to win early (i.e., at least make a bowl) to keep the fanbase engaged. Otherwise indifference will set in big time.

We have been thru enough coaching changes around here to Know in everyone of these there is a "new standard" and the new way is heaven while the old way was hell. I recall so much buzz about the new culture when Lane got here. Fulmer didn't know how to run a practice during that time per the buzz

Yeah that's why I don't put a lot of stock in the practice reports. This time last year it was "Walt Wells really got after his offensive line today. He was not happy with Brett Kenderick's efforts on a couple of drills and he made it be known." "Kevin Beard hit the practice field with his cleats on today and ran routes with the receivers." Just a lot of that type of feel good stuff. Don't want to hear about the labor, show me the baby. I have enjoyed Pruitt's press conferences though.

I think the thing I like about his practice methods is they're not some new thing. They're the same that many proven coaches use. And most of our assistants are proven assistants with experience coaching in these practice environments. So it's not like we're excited about some new methods, we're excited about going back to a more proven way of practicing. Imo

Everything needs to be considered on a continuum. Butch came in with a good S&C leader in Lawson. He had a fire in his gut to work hard and recruit like a mad man. He did not leave at the same intensity level.

I think there will be a pointed difference in the S&C of our team in 2018 vs 2017. Health and depth will be a factor. Teaching by coaches (that can teach) will be a factor. I expect significant improvement, but I expect it will take 2-3 years for Tennessee to be competing at a high level.

Pruitt's high expectations were part of the reason Richt got fired. I don't think he's going to sputter and die now that he has his own program.

Need restaurant recommendations for pigeon forge/Gatlinburg first time taking the family.

Paula Dean's is great. Really like the Old Mill as well. There's an old sandwich shop in the village in Gatlinburg that's top notch as well. Park Grill in Gatlinburg is also really good.

Alamo? did it burn down? did they rebuild? seems like there might be a second location...
Calhouns
The Old Mill
Pigeon Forge Deli is phenomenal. Best soft pretzel ever, and huge sandwiches

I think Butch tried to establish a cult of personality those first couple of years- and then when the results on the field started lacking, and everyone saw through it, he got really uptight and didn’t know how to react, let alone adapt.

I don't think it was the results on the field. Heck our results were climbing. I just thing when you coach with slogans and Artifical means as opppsed to be real with a team eventually the team tunes out that style

He never figured out how to manage star players. He brought a MAC coaching style and couldn't see how catering to the ballers would destroy the team.

I’m with this. As fans our brains are built to love everything “our” guy does until he/she proves themselves unworthy of that support.

The only thing that really matters in the next calendar year is recruiting and development. The season is very likely to be garbage. Let’s get to 2019.
