My favorite part...

“On the defensive front for Tracy Rocker it's about effort and it's safe to say both he and Chris Rumph have high expectations and are pushing for it. Rocker at one point restarted a drill because it wasn't done at the pace and effort he wanted. Rocker told one player, who was adjusting his shoe, “stop that non-sense, using that trick went out in the '50's.”

Is this where you hint at stuff and we just accept blindly?

Don't have to hint. I live here, know him, have friends that worked in the department under and with him. and witnessed things in public settings you will never see. He was fired for stuff not on the football field. He acted like an azz for a long time and it caught up to him.

But hey, keep your fantasy alive.

A little more on Kirkland...

I’m told this afternoon that the knee scope was always going to happen after the initial knee surgery last year. He didn’t have it done in Knoxville and had the knee cleaned up in Alabama.

This - many times over. He will be well preserved when he croaks.

There is the legacy provided by the media. Then there is the reality. He deserved firing long before he was.

Maybe I'm a little too strong here but I honestly consider Majors' career here a bit of a disappointment.

Hey, like Barry Switzer. Had an affair with his DC’s (and best friend’s) wife. Did Majors take a shot at her when Lacewell was on campus? I don’t have a “fantasy” that he was a bed of roses, but if he hadn’t rushed back and tanked the season, there’s a good possibility he would have been retained. If he had signed his CONTRACT before the season, he DEFINITELY would have been back. All these sins he was getting fired for? Did they occur AFTER his hospitalization? Odd that they tried to re-sign a dead man. :fool:

I can understand that viewpoint, but in fairness, he was really starting to hit a stride when he had his heart surgery.

Yeah he definitely had a strong program in his last years. I just don't think he would have ever won a national. Hard for me to take the fact that he won one at Pitt but couldn't get it done here.

I did know Larry Lacewell back in that day. Golfed with him occasionally because I lived and worked in NE Arkansas for a dozen years. So I was there when he moved to Jonesboro and lived with Bull Davidson and his wife. Maybe Larry lied to me - your call since you wanted to go there. You can put me on ignore at any time you want, butchna. You seemingly have a problem that some people know more about some situations and people than you do.

Alcoholism causes people to do things they ordinarily might not do. It also progressively worsens unless addressed. But you know that. The UTAD looked the other way until Majors started making things obvious and the complaints got worse. Toward the end he was trashing them when they were his bosses. Hard to remove a coach that is successful that is treating everybody with respect regardless of the health concern. So why would they - because they were mean people? Maybe Phil paid them off? Or maybe they knew what they were doing it and it was the right thing.

He always had that one really dumb loss or two. It became really frustrating. He had great scrappy teams that outplayed their talent, but he also had really talented teams that didn't play up to their ability. I think he did a good job rebuilding the program from the nuclear devastation of the 70s, which before this decade+ of disaster was the worst mess the UT football has been in. He deserves all the credit for that, and I will always appreciate it.

But man am I pissed about how bad he wanted to ramrod Schiano on us despite our nearly unanimous hatred of that hire. That is going to be hard to forgive for me personally

I think he's very spiteful. Wouldn't be surprised at all if he actually rooted against Tennessee in the years after his firing. Don't know if it was really true or not, but I remember hearing the story about how Majors refused to autograph a picture of himself in the Knoxville Cracker Barrel because there was a picture of Phil and the 98 national title team up above the fire place.

Majors has no idea what’s going on half the time lol.

So all that came to a head AFTER they offered him a new contract? Just doesn’t fly. Why would I put you on ignore? I would deprive myself of info from people who know people who heard of people who KNOW stuff! Pretty important connections. It’s no state secret that Coach Majors was difficult. Even in an age where every rumor or innuendo didn’t have an instantaneous outlet. I’m simply stating that your “knowledge” is buried in the middle of a muck of you and yours personal biases and general dislike. There would be someone in your zipcode that would take a different slant...narrative...whatever terminology you want to splat on the wall. So did Johnny bonk Mrs. Lacewell? Since I “asked for it”? :) No PROBLEMS brother! Try not to sound so outraged when you SCHOOL me. Don’t remember having a personal problem with you, but that’s getting harder to keep track of lately. When I get the gist that the vast majority of this board hates me (as 76 recently stated), I’ll gracefully exit stage right. I don’t disagree for effect. I disagree when I don’t accept someone’s else’s FACTS as my own.

I still would be ok with Leach. Would love to see someone give him a shot at a premier program.

I think he's a good coach, just don't think he's a fit for a big dog SEC program. He's extremely weird and I don't see him recruiting even close to well enough. Also don't think that offense can compete with the UGA's and Bama's of the world.

I'm not in that majority but as a friend, I will say you've been a tad bit more testy lately. :hi:

Lincoln Riley runs his offense at OU and they gave UGa all they could handle.

He was a better option than either Gundy, who wasn't going anywhere and had already played us once for a raise, or Doeren, who appears to be a .500 coach at best.

Definitely think he's better than Doeren. His own people at NC State think he's garbage. I think they were almost hoping he'd leave for Tennessee. Dodged a missile there.

We’ve done this before. I don’t think we’ve “peaked” yet. I’m no different than I was when I was going on vacation every other week. Seems like there’s a double standard when I disagree with a poster. I get labeled as Bruin or D4H. I don’t find a topic and automatically take the opposing view and I’ve never claimed any “gift” in sports knowledge. But I take my time and am pretty resolved in positions I state. And no one else calling me “delusional” or “clueless” ever affects that. 4Us could have stated he has personal experience with Majors and that’s affected his opinion and I wouldn’t have told him that he didn’t. Throwing in a personal jab at me gets me feisty...it’s not necessary.
