Kendrick said he lost 25lbs of fat and gained 10lbs of muscle while getting ready for pro day.

Off topic.... speaking of muscle memory, how much muscle weight do you think it’s possible to gain in two weeks for someone that’s 6’4” around 300, that used to bench 455 max, hasn’t worked out in about 7 years and just started back? I’m trying to lose weight but when I started back lifting my weight loss stalled out big time.

Two weeks? Not much. I would say 5-10 in the first month if you hit it heavy.

I was only doing diet and cardio for first 4-5 weeks and lost 30+ lbs (had gotten to 350, ugh) but as soon as I started lifting again I gained 5 lbs right off the bat with no other diet changes. I’ve since leveled off and started slowly losing weight again, down another 10lbs, but it was very frustrating to gain weight. Trying to convince myself it’s muscle lol

A ton of factors that I can’t possibly speculate from here, lol.

Would highly suspect you are in a recomp phase though... especially if your diet and activity is where it was.

Body recomposition is the norm when the situation you described occurs. You’ve been at a high strength level, so the muscle mass needed to support it was obviously in place.

Don’t sweat the scale, start adding weight to the bar every session, get at least .8 grams of protein per pound of body weight and minimize other nutrients as compliance allows, and you will see wonders

I know when I get back into exercising after a lay off I lose about 10 lbs in the first two weeks then it stops. I read that the initial loss is mostly water then when that levels off it is hard to lose more especially if you are lifting as you are gaining muscle weight. Its more about your body changing appearance than your weight I'd say.

Especially if you’ve reduced carbohydrates. Muscle glycogen drops, and general water retention as well

If true, that alters my point entirely. Rebounding muscle memory is a whole different thing from developing new muscle

S&C was still trash though

This was the quote I saw about it. And it definitely doesn't change the fact the S&C was trash. Haha But maybe shows what could've been.

"Former UT OL Brett Kendrick benched 225 25 times, had a 30-inch
vertical jump after losing 20 lbs (324 to 304) during 2 month regimen
in Cincinnati. He had flu, partial tear of pectoral muscle and stomach
bug during Cincy stint yet lost lots of fat and gained 10 lbs of
muscle.

I’ve been doing less than 20g of carbs per day. Hard to get 250+ grams of protein lol.

I’m know I shouldn’t be going by the scale but get caught up in it anyway. Wanted some feedback to make sure I’m not losing my mind, help motivate me to stay focused. I have a long way to go, another 80lbs or so, but I’m feeling so much better already. Mentally and physically. I can tell a difference in the way I look. Nice to start seeing some size back in my chest, arms, and legs, even though I’m still weak as water lol

Thanks for the feedback nick and newt.

Sure man just keep at it. I seem to stay at 215 even though Im running about 10 miles a week and lifting heavy 3-4 days a week. The thing is I can see that this 215 looks a lot better than the sitting on the couch for 3 months with a herniated disc 215 does. I find that the major obstacle for me is portion control. Just not eating so much of whatever it is goes a long way.

Portion control is an issue with me as well. Doing just no carbs was enough for a while, but after losing the easy weight I’ve had to dial back my portions.

why do we always have workout problems when we have turnover? it's annoying

Two coaches in a row that have treated workouts as optional. Crazy.

I ask this sometimes, do the guys not have any competitive nature? If I’m an OL, I don’t want any other OL on the team pushing more weight than me, much less a RB or smaller dude. I don’t get it?

I don't either. it's like we put estrogen pills in the smoothies when a coach is on a hot seat.

... oh my gawd.... 🤔

It was a team of soft loser quitters. Very few scrappers in the whole lot of em.

We will see if they take on the personality of their coach.

Similar to when people are unhappy with their job/boss, they don’t do good work, if players hate their coach and don’t respect him, the product will suffer. They kind of adapt a “why bother” attitude.

Last year's team was soft and unmotivated. Not sure if Butch ever planned to run a tight ship or if letting players make their own decisions about workout and practices started with Hurd... but it got worse. Some of the seniors said players were doing whatever they wanted and had no respect for Butch at all last year. I think CJP is as annoyed with the work ethic and attitude as he is with the players being undeveloped and out-of-shape. One thing about CJP-- he's not playing favorites. They're all working. Wonder how the slackers are enjoying those 5 AM workouts?

throughout the the week, volquest.com has discussed many of the key storylines and questions surrounding the vols as they prepare for their first spring practice under new head coach jeremy pruitt.

Tennessee takes the field march 20, with a weekly practice schedule set for tuesday, thursday and saturday. Pruitt inherits a team with limited scholarship numbers already, and he’ll have to deal with a handful of players who will either be out or limited all spring, too.

Ol trey smith (undisclosed)

ol chance hall (knee)

ol k’rojhn calbert (knee)

wr jauan jennings (knee)

dt quay piccou (undisclosed)

lb daniel bituli (knee, shoulder)

db cheyenne labruzza (knee)

db todd kelly jr. (knee, ankle)

db d.j. Henderson (undisclosed)

how the new staff manages the short numbers — especially along the offense line — remains a big question mark. Tennessee’s offensive line is particularly shorthanded with no smith or hall available and calbert very limited.

With a two-deep littered with walk-ons, managing reps could be a challenge. Elsewhere, will ignont stands to get a bunch of snaps at inside linebacker this spring with daniel bituli sidelined. The rising sophomore has the tools and traits that pruitt previously recruited for the position at fsu, georgia and alabama.

Also defensively, the vols are expected to be without quay piccou this spring.

In the secondary, theo jackson will get extra reps at safety with both todd kelly jr. And cheyenne labruzza out or limited. Jackson, a long 6-foot-2, 180-pound sophomore, is expected to get looks at several spots in the secondary including safety, star/nickel and possibly corner.
