That is a many faceted issue. Look no further than Memphis to see how far a hub can fall when the major player leaves. Before the DAL-NWA merger, MEM was a pretty busy airport. You have the opportunity to fly international out of there, nonstop. But the city of Memphis badmouthed NWA for years and actively solicited 'low fare' airlines to come in and save them. Well they got their wish. The airport is a ghost town and SWA and other carriers will take you to Florida all day long and twice on Sunday. But those international flights are long gone. Not only that but add in lost business. Those discounts likely made them more competitive with other airlines. Even if NRA members didn't do their own boycott, they'll look to other airlines that might be less expensive to fly.
I updated the response from Delta...
Am I missing something? This is Delta's statement:
Delta is reaching out to the NRA to let them know we will be ending their contract for discounted rates through our group travel program. We will be requesting that the NRA remove our information from their website.
I thought we liberal snowflakes were supposed to be highly attuned to offensive language. For the life of me, I can't see anything here that cast aspersions on the NRA.
Delta is pushing a political agenda by returning to a neutral position?
I find it fascinating that those who want to see the swamp drained are also OK with politicians using tax payers dollars to leverage & extort a partisan position from a private corporation that wants to be neutral.
Give "our" people a break on prices or we'll withhold money through tax incentives. LOL, I hope Delta packs up their sht and moves.
Excellent response. Neutral means not taking a stand either way. They took a stand.
I think the Delta situation is a good learning opportunity for young executive want to be's. Keep your mouth shut about political issues, there is nothing to be gained by taking a stand on hot button issues like gun control.
That's not showing up on the image of the tweet you posted, at least not for me.
Not going to happen.
Where do you suggest they go?
Chicago-Ohare? No dice, United has that market.
JFK/LaGuardia? No dice, limited space, and other competitive airlines are heavily marketed there.
DFW? No dice, American has that market.
Los Angeles/San Francisco/Seattle? No dice, other large markets exist, and not conducive to Deltas sprawling flight destinations.
Youre underestimating the cost and logistical hurdles with a move of this magnitude.
Isn't that what they're doing, not taking a position?
I feel like the word 'neutral' must have different meaning for some people.
I don't think Delta will ever offer the NRA incentive that probably didn't add to their bottom line to begin with. What are they getting from the NRA. Any kind of loyalty from NRA members because they offered a discount to travel to the Rally, will give way to the which airline is cheapest. A boycott delta would also be of no consequence when the very nature is to try to travel cheap.
There will be no reconciliation between Delta and the NRA but Delta and Georgia will work it out.
That's not what Delta said, at all - it's not even close.
The GA politicians are using Delta to score cheap political points with their base.
There are 2 tweets in my original post. Like I said earlier I updated the post to show the response from Delta. If you still cant see it all you have to do is click on the YES DELTA DRAG THEM tweet to see the response from Delta. That isn't a "neutral" response.
One would think this is true. If that were truly a yuge concern of business, why are there so many in NY and Cali?Do they rent the land or own? I really don't think you can make a determination without knowing a lot more than you or I do. A state with a lower state fuel tax could already be attractive and the state could make incentives.
This has been stated multiple times by those of us that are members we didnt join for the discounts. I have other memberships with WAY better discounts that pay for themselves. And I would submit the NRA could give a rodents anus about this discount. It was the corporate entity making a political attack. And the home state politicians said hold on a damn minute.
And I stated multiple times GA and Delta are going to work this out.
But yeah. Delta gets to keep their discount. Feel better?
You really think that is what this is about? This is about political votes. I'll GUARANTEE you that the legislators do NOT represent the district that has Peachtree City in the middle of it.No you don't even understand the complexity of issues for Delta and Georgia with the state trying push the NRA agenda on a private corporation.
