Mass shooting of the week, high school in parkland, FL.

Typical vacuous left wing goon bs.

Congrats.

That was your agenda all along plus I already pointed out to you several times in this thread that your average deer rifle was probably more lethal than the damn gun you are harping on. Plus as several have pointed out if you want to focus on ROF just use a damn pistol. Pick the mag depth of your choice don’t care. Takes me about 3 seconds to reload and recharge!

You go find your own reasonable ROF. It’s your burden to prove. But in the end you don’t want assault weapons you want ALL weapons.

That was never my "agenda" plus I've pointed out to you multiple time in this thread that guns that shoot x rounds per y seconds should be banned. I don't care if you call it a deer rifle, an AR 15, a FU 27, or a moose gun. If it is capable of shooting x rounds per y seconds, it should be banned.

Here is what REASONABLE people think, a guy shouldn't have a legally purchased gun capable of firing 100 times in 2 minutes as he is walking down a school hallway and into and out of classrooms.

Lol.

Ever seen a shotgun?

Ever seen a 10 gauge shotgun?

Ever seen 10 gauge shot?

Ever seen a duckbill choke?

Might as well be shooting a mini claymore..

To be honest that kid could have devastated that school using what I mentioned above instead of an AR-15..and will way less ammo.

Took trap and skeet shooting in college. Best in the class! I don't know if we were using 10, 4, or 31 gauge.

If a gun gives a person the capability of killing a whole lot of people in a couple of minutes, it probably needs to be looked at.

The shotgun I used had to constantly be reloaded by hand. That was half the fun. It was not a weapon designed to give a person the capability of killing 50 people in a couple of minutes.

The tide is turning.

No, reasonable people are asking why the system failed.

Reasonable people can actually have a rational discussion about this. Even LG and I did for a time a few days ago until he went full LG on me for poking holes in his argument. CWV and I even had a nice back and forth.

But we discussed it rationally, unlike luther who can't even begin to even know what "rational" is without frothing at the mouth and screaming about bans. He'd much prefer to see more dead kids while screaming about "assault rifles" than to actually do something right now like putting LEOs in schools and having preventative active shooter tools and training available for administrations.

Let me ask this, luther, if you're so embedded in the school administration and other various undefined "agencies" answer this simple question...

When was the last time they actually performed an active shooter drill at the schools in your district with the entire student body.

They do it for fire drills, should they not be practicing this?

Reasonable people can process more than one issue at a time.

It's like being in a leaking life boat 50 miles off shore. Everyone can see that there are multiple holes but the gun nut side steadfastly maintains that no one will ever attempt to fix their leak as long as there are other leaks.
While every one else is frantically looking for ways to fix the other leaks, the gun nuts protect their hole in the boat like it is sacred. Meanwhile the boat sinks.

One per quarter. Also every school has every access closed but one during school hours. At high schools that access includes a manned guardhouse. In every school, entrances have been reconfigured where the only entry is through the main office. Which is also where the resource officer has his office.

The issue can definitely be discussed between rational adults who have a general understanding of the issue.

As to the "assault" rifle ban... I don't think ARs are chosen for their effectiveness because there are other guns that would be every bit as effective for killing kids in a school. IMO, school shooters are mentally deficient, and choose the ARs because of their looks. They feel big and bad with that type of gun. Therefore, simply banning "assault" rifles won't cut it. We have to figure out how to keep all guns out of the hands of nut jobs.

And this guard never wanders the property?

You have a school of 3,500 students that just got hit. Multiple buildings, multiple avenues of entrance...

And one armed LEO.

I'm sorry, but I'll join the anti-cop forces here for a moment and say I'd much prefer to have cops on duty at schools rather than sitting on the roadway waiting for tickets. A 1/500 ratio would be a good starting point.

Okay, we agree.

Now how?

The resource officer wanders the property and the building. Every adult in all schools must wear id badges. Every visitor in all schools is issued a badge. All high school students must wear ID (mandatory).

The irony isn't missed in this post.

Keep focusing on the gun angle. You're doing a great job!

Well, that's good. I'm glad they have an easy way of identifying the dead after another mass shooting occurs because you were too focused on the gun angle rather than all aspects of the issue.

Okay, we agree.

Now how?

That's the rub.

Create a defined list of mental health issues that would prohibit gun ownership. This will be a huge debate in and of itself.

Utilize the insurance company database of medical records to make the determination.

The background check has to be set up in such a way that medical information is never transferred to the government.

Create appeal process.

You’ve probably just eliminated every hunting weapon except the double barrel shotguns and all single shot long guns.

And by rule when shooting skeet, trap, sporting clays, 5 stand, etc... you only load two rounds when in the firing position regardless of how many rounds your weapon will hold. For my O/U Browning that’s full capacity. For my Winchester pump I can load 3 more thus I have arbitrarily and falsely impacted actual reload time and interval between reloads.

I’m done with this thread I am thinking. It’s all been brought out and I need to get stuff done today. Will try to change to lurker mode.

Luther your school honestly sounds like it has a decent plan and is configured well. And I hope and pray that it’s never tested and you have to find out.

Edit: one final parting thought. The same gun I could use in target shooting, the Winchester pump, I could easily kill in excess of 10 people a minute without breaking a sweat. I can cycle the pump faster than the bolt on my ‘06.

And this gun configuration is probably the single most common long gun configuration sold today without a rifled barrel and it’s primary intent is hunting/sporting. And I would guess there are 10’s of millions out there now. It is absolute lunacy to think those guns will ever be pulled from circulation. That horse left the barn decades ago. Cheers.

So, current and former students and really anyone with access to a lamination machine could wander the school freely?

It seems that most of these shootings are done by current and former students.

Two different lists maybe? One temporary and one permanent?

Same doctor that puts you on has the ability to take you off unless it's proven they are abusing the system?

That was a thought of mine as well. Not all mental conditions should result in a permanent ban. Maybe not any, but...

No system we implement will be perfect, but if we start out with the least restrictive system and tweak it as we go to tighten up weaknesses it will probably be more effective in the long run.

You know there's a big elephant in the room with this we haven't discussed.

Universal background checks.

Supported by 90% of the population.

Opposed by the NRA so it will never happen.

News banner just flashed about Trump talking to Coryn and Murphy about their current bipartisan bill in the Senate on increased background checks. He is supportive of it and it sounds like he’s trying to assist them.

So if he gets it thru are you gonna give him credit for it? Or just claim too little too late why did it take so long. You know just like your boy Obama.
