Its almost crazy to me that we played Pons (obviously not ready) and Kent (needs weight).. Did Barnes and Co not learn a lesson from Kyle Alexander? .. I guess thats apples to oranges because we needed KAs depth when he was a freshmen - and he gained valuable PT.
We're not at practices. Maybe Johnson, Pons, and Kent were expected to contribute but due to their injuries and/or other reasons they're just next close yet. Walker is the only true freshman getting time, but he's obviously struggling a lot adapting to the college game.
Johnson's absence is the most surprising to me, but his injury might have really slowed him down and set him back. It seems worse than Pons' injury. Pons has the biggest adjustment to make with Euro ball and language. Kent could very well just not be physically ready.
We arent at practices, but the concept of a redshirt imo is like if he isnt playing, theres no reason to waste a year of eligibility. We're not at practices. Barnes is definitely likely to cut other players? Remember our roster turnover his first year? Owens/McGhee/eventually Shembarri were all players that could have stuck around imo.Not really. You have to remember Barnes is old school and isn't as likely to cut players as other coaches. He might see Kent as a guy they need to make sure he doesn't take up a scholly for that 5th year.
