You younger guys talk this **** as if it means something, but in reality you guys are soft..... marshmallow soft.....it's one thing to teach respect and another to be a "follower" as you say.

Soft, like people who feel threatened by a kid who questions authority?

Nobody said anything about not teaching kids respect. You old guys are out of touch...shrieking feminist out of touch.

8188 said "a child taught to question authority". He didn't say kids should always vocally question authority, the implication was that kids shouldn't be taught to blindly accept authority.

Y'all jumped all over him as if it's not OK to teach kids to question authority. There is a time and a place, if you're reasonable. I don't think you need examples.

We must keep in mind these guys are millenials and don't have kids...... but they know everything.... like Huff with his economics BS. Reading his Econ posts always reminds me of the scene in Back To School when Rodney is making the professor look like a dolt.

But he clarified what he meant:

"Respect is earned. Question authority. Be civil towards all unless given a reason to behave differently"

You guys are talking about outwardly demonstrating respect, which he endorses, but he's talking about what's really going on internally with the kid's thought process.

Threatened? Hardly....... by choice I will not raise some disrespectful little punk ass kid. I'll also not raise a follower as you put it.

Hate to say it, but this is exactly what I think. I can think of many times I didn't agree with my parents, but did what I was told out of respect. They were usually right in the end. Moat parents have experience on their side and in most cases know what is best. Odds are these "don't respect authority" people come off as teenagers rebelling against anything to get out of doing everything.
