Pearl wouldnt have said the fans should be ashamed. Not many coaches would do something like that. Its a dumb comment to make.
Because he was most likely directly asked about it. What else would he say? "I can't comment on that because I don't know how he was embraced?" That's not a positive answer.
Barnes is going to avoid any and all conflict when answering questions about another coach, especially one that he likes personally. Not to get all religious, but Barnes is a faithful Christian, and he is going to respect others, especially if he personally knows the man.
I just think an older established coach can say things a young coach can't
Barnes isn't going to pander to the fans or the media. He doesn't give two ****s that there are critics hanging on everything that he utters.
It was a message that could resonate with recruits though. For whatever reason Cuonzo's been signing more than his fair share so defending CCM while at UT might actually put Barnes in a more favorable light with potential signees.
Only difference is Zo got out of town before the bad year and it was coming no doubt
Butch: "**** all them".
Majors: "Gay Street QBs"
Drunkle Jerry: something about Kmart
Cuonzo: something about threats to his wife
Yeah. He always knew what to say. He was slick.
You are wanting to make this about Pearl. Not me.
To the bolded part, total bull**** considering where his slick tongue eventually landed him.
For the second part, I'm just using him as a reference to illustrate the kind of latitude you typically allow for a coach you like vs the crusade effort to nitpick everything Barnes does or says.
Simply put, if Pearl had said the same thing about Peterson, you'd have no problem with it, or certainly wouldn't go out of your way to draw attention to it the way you have this morning.
No recruit in the country gives a crap what Rick Barnes says about Cuonzo Martin.
Again, its not about him complimenting Zo. Its his comments about not being embraced and being ashamed.
Pearl wouldnt have said that. He just wouldnt have. He knew how to work people and wouldnt have said something like that to drive a wedge. He would have told everyone how great they were. Cuonzo, the fans, Missouri, etc.
But you approach it as if Barnes said those things explicitly, and he simply didn't. He used qualifying words like "if" and "then", and that's the very exact argument you'd make if you were trying to defend him. But you're not, and it's obvious as to why. You're just trying really hard to vilify him over some pretty innocuous statements.
