Kahlil declares for draft

Hold off on installing a 3-4 defense, He was about the only true nose tackle on the roster, and IT CANT BE ANCHORED by a True Freshman, even if they find one.. Bamas are all Jrs and Srs b4 they really see real action

Please direct me to the tape then.

You guys keep saying he got bulldozed and pushed back constantly yet have no games to direct me to.

I watched every Vols game last year except for the Vandy game. In almost every game I saw, he was stout. Especially early on in the game when he and the rest of the defense were fresh. Later on in games he might have been pushed back because of fatigue since our offense couldn't stay on the field.

But I saw a lot of good from Kahlil for most of the year. The most surprising aspect of his game was he got some good bull rushes up the middle on 3rd down that pressured the QB.

As I said many times in this thread already, you guys will be surprised by how high he's drafted. IMO 3rd round is very likely. And I'm sure once it happens, you guys will say it was his father that got him drafted.

Sounds great. Do you have any stocks you could recommend that I should invest in? :thud:

If he did, he’d have no earthly idea what he’d be watching. Anybody who thinks KMac played great last year, while “anchoring” one of the very worst defensive lines in the country is out of his mind....which explains D4H’s posts.

As I always say, we'll let the NFL decide this question.

If KMac ends up being a long-time starting DT in the NFL will you admit you were wrong about him here at Tennessee?

Cause for 3 years now you've been saying how horrible KMac has been. And mostly you've been using the fact he hasn't put up individual box score numbers like sacks and TFLs as proof. I've constantly said watch the tape. That is how you can tell whether a 1-technique is doing his job.

I said as a freshmen KMac was not good. But he improved tremendously as a sophomore. And he was really good this season as well. From what I saw while focusing on just him, he's stout against the run. He does a good job taking on double teams. And when he's single covered, he does a good job bull rushing on 3rd down and getting pressure on the QB up the middle.

Kahlil McKenzie will be a solid starter in the NFL for a long time.

How high do we guys think?

Most of you think he'll go undrafted unless his father uses a 7th round pick on him.

I think he'll be a 3rd-4th round pick.

And he'll have a NFL career that exceeds the average 3rd-4th rounder. He's a solid 7-8 year starter in the NFL.

Wow. Definitely not ready and Pruitt would have helped him tremendously next year. Instead of possibly having 1 good year with UT he'll go down as an all time bust here.

Good luck McKenzie...you're going to need it.

Lol at anyone that tries to argue with D4H. You must watch a lot of tape. You keep saying you honed in on kmac this year, however, you're also able to provide confident analysis and predictions on everyone else. Do you have a job? Go to school? Or, just watch "tape" 24/7?

I want what you're smoking.

With a great combine I see late first
With a good combine 2-3
With a OK combine 4-5
With a bad combine 7 or Free Agent

He was great? What did I miss?

How often did you focus on the defensive line?

Most fans just watch where the ball is going. And since Kahlil isn't a 3-techinque DT that penetrates and gets sacks/TFLs, most of you probably thought he was being ineffective.

I focused on the defensive line a lot and watched Kahlil in particular. He was generally very good. He always stood his ground even against double teams. He also did a good job getting pressure on the QB up the middle when he faced just one blocker. He showed much better endurance this year given how many snaps he played.

Kahlil is a lot better than you guys think. You guys just focused on the ball when watching the games. And you guys focus on the stats after the game whether its individual or team. So you saw KMac not get many sacks or TFLs and you saw that our rush defense was ineffective so you assumed KMac wasn't doing his job.

Most of the anti-Kahlil people in this thread probably rarely focused on him during games and have probably never looked at tape focused on him. They are merely speculating as to his effectiveness because they didn't notice him making big plays during games. And to most fans, lack of noticeable plays or box score stats = not being good. When it couldn't be further from the truth for a 1-technique DT like Kahlil.

But for his high rating, he under performed. Much of that was rotten luck with injuries, but if I had to choose between him or Kendall Vickers? No question, Vickers was easily better.

No he didn't. You guys just had UNREALISTIC expectations for a guy who is a 1-technique defensive tackle. You guys simply misunderstood his skill set and what he did well. You thought he would come in here and get 10 sacks every year getting tons of TFLs and penetration.

That is not Kahlil's skill set. Kahlil is a 1-technique DT in a 4-3 defense and a 0-tecnique nose tackle in a 3-4 defense. His skill set is taking on double teams to free linebackers, plugging gaps in the run game, and getting pressure up the middle on 3rd down so that the QB gets flushed for the defensive ends to get sacks.

His job is the dirty work. The stuff that doesn't show up in the highlight reels. The stuff that doesn't show up in the box score.

You guys just expected a different type of player. So when he wasn't getting sacks, TFLs, and highlight plays, you thought he was a bust and not doing his job. When that couldn't be further from the truth. Kahlil did his job really well. And that is why he'll be drafted a lot higher this season than you guys think. As others have said, 3rd round is a distinct possibility for him.

I figured he'll go undated but one draft site says he might go in the 6th...he does have potential but it just never developed here Butch and gang...

I’m no D4H tag along but think KMac will do very well in the NFL. Unless injuries stop his career I think he will have a longer career than Dobbs or Kelley. Thinking 3rd or 4th rd. The only player I have seen that played up to their ability, under Jones, was D Barnett.

I was really surprised to see that he announced. My impression was that he wasn't ready. Maybe the nose tackle position is thin in this year's draft and he thought he had a good opportunity. Wish him luck. He'll need it.

I literally think D4H is Butch Jones.

Oh well. I don’t think any of our early folks get drafted. Good luck Mac!

My unskilled observation is that McCullers was drafted and he was not even close to the college player that McKenzie was. Pretty good chance that he gets drafted.
Kinda like almost ANY college 7 footer will make an NBA team. Just based on their size...

As much as it pains me I have to agree with D4H... Kahlil will crush the combine and go 2nd/3rd round. Prototype nose tackle and the league loves the 3-4. These guys eat up space and blockers not many stats go along with that. We could have really used him next year, biggest lose of anyone leaving early this year.
