'18 CA QB JT Shrout (UT signee)

Not gonna lie, I’m pulling hard for Shrout to take the job as a true freshman.

Not going to happen. He needs the development time to gain more exposure and experience. Tools are their to be elite. Needs to be slowly worked in the way QD should have been. Get him in games where outcome is decided to get live bullets before eventually being full time starter when JG leaves. I think JG will be really good in this offense. He just isn't a dual threat we assumed and is more prostyle

Wow, after looking at his film this guy is going to be great. That is one of the most natural throwing motioning I have seen in a long time. I also noticed he has great field vision. This guy is going to be an NFL player if he doesn't get hurt!!! This might be the next Peyton Manning IF he has the right work habits!!

Wouldn’t be surprised if a QB transfers this spring and Shrout battles the other two for starter next fall.

Dormady graduates in May. Ryno Call-a-ham and Les Schmucker believe he's competing for the job but will have the option to grad-transfer and play right away if he doesn't win the job.

If true, he gone. Highly doubt Dormady wins the job this spring and is named starter.

Not me. That would mean bad things for this team. We're not loaded to the point like UGA where we can just plug and play a freshman QB. Especially one with so little experience.

Nope... I'm squarely rooting for JG to take to Heltons coaching and live up to his potential.

JG has physical talent. But in two years, he didn't learn the last O past the basics. He didn't show he could read D's or consistently make decisions under pressure. Hopefully, he was just immature and didn't put in the work. Maybe he just felt "entitled" since Jones apparently told him he'd be the starter. But most guys are well past where he was by their 2nd year in a system. Some guys... just do not have the talent to do the mental part of the game.

The offense was a mess. Hard to fault Dormady or JG. The coaching was flawed and the system was flawed. Fresh start for everyone.

Sometimes it takes being thrown into the fire to be brought down to earth and realize things. if he can get someone to help him make decisions faster and play less robotic then he will be fine. Butch and conhave shown with pro style QBs they have no idea how to teach that and simplify systems

Right but that goes for Butch’s entire tenure at UT... poor QB progression. Dobb’s talent covered up his lack of ability to read defenses and of no fault of their own no recent QB has learned or been taught how to do so. We have had 3 OC’s over the last 5 seasons and no true QB coach besides this year. I think we will see a QB this coming season who will value possessions and the ball!

Right on target, good arm ,does not read the field ,has little understanding of offensive and defensive concepts, holds the ball too long trying to make a decision and then makes wrong decision 90 % of the time.

So someone who doesn't turn the ball over and completed 62% on the season and 65.1% vs SEC teams makes the wrong decision 90% of the time?

What do you think of this Shrout kid then? He only completes 50% for a 1/1 td int ratio vs high school teams.

😆 Lol

Shrout’s passes never hit the ground, that’s for sure.

Just a name to watch for next year, QB Ross Malmgren. Will end up a 4 star and Tn is his dream offer. Might be a deal where he commits as soon as offered and I think he will be, recruiting is going to explode for him. :hi:
