Scalpers are still out there, but they've cut way down on it ever since they bought up all the land adjacent to the course and turned it into free parking.

I was taken by a client for a practice round about 7 or 8 years ago. It was Tiger Woods' first practice round after the whole thing broke about the women at Perkins and what not. He was paired with Freddy Couples. After awhile, Furyk joined them.

It was an amazing experience. TV simply does not do the place justice. Highly recommend it. And definitely hang out at the last par 3, I guess its 16 or 17. Fans yell "Skip!" to the players and they hit grounders along the water to try to make it onto the green. Really fun.

Basically your choices boil down to scalping or being in the right place at the right time.

Its all about luck. I've been lucky and got picked three times. Others, like yourself, have never been picked. There's no rhyme or reason.

If your antsy then buy from scalpers. Keep in mind the tickets are the first part of your big expense. Hotels all around Augusta (100-150 mile radius) jack up prices for that week. Then plan on dropping a load in the gift shop, which isnt cheap. Why not? you might not ever return. First time I dropped a couple hundred. Last two times $1000 each trip. The merch aint cheap but you cant buy it anywhere else.

A little hint- if you go take a camera with you. You cannot use your cell phone anywhere on the course . if you are caught you will be escorted out

You can't take a camera Thursday thru Sunday. Maybe it's allowed Monday thru Wednesday though.

BTW, if anybody is lucky enough to get picked in the lottery... DO NOT TALK TO THE GUYS THAT APPROACH YOU WANTING TO BUY YOUR TICKETS. They hit you up as soon as you park and they're with Augusta National. If you dicker at all... you'll be removed from the list and never have a chance of ever getting tickets again.

That's exactly what it is. Also, you're going to get screened at the gate. Leave Cell phones and pocket knives not the car.

I went around the same time for a Tuesday practice round and we mostly stayed around the 16th gallery. It was a lot of fun. They paired Phil and John Daly together that day too, which was a great group to follow around. We got our tickets through an usher who had been there for years.

I consider myself fortunate that my brother and I went to Mon, Tues, and Wed. practice rounds for many years when you could walk up to the gate the day of, and buy a ticket for less than $10. That was in the 1970's and 80's. Back then, Nicklaus, Palmer, Watson, Miller, Strange, Norman, Ballesteros, Player, Couples, etc. were the big noise.

I went into a bar one Tuesday night, and sat down, and had a beer with Greg Norman and Bruce Edwards, who was Tom Watson's caddie that died of ALS. I am pretty sure that was in 1986 when Norman, Kite, and Ballesteros lost down the stretch to Nicklaus.

First time I went was a practice round in 1986 when I was 13. Got there early and went directly to the bleachers between 15 green and 16 tee. The first group through included Jack Nicklaus who promptly hit it within about 3" on his 3rd shot on 15. Then, he won the tournament a few days later. It was magical.

Yet to be mentioned are the beers and sandwiches are about $2 a pop. However, the merchandise will get you. I think I spent about $600 on hats, shirts and tumblers.

So I applied for 2018 tickets last year, but never got an email in June saying I didn't win the lottery. Anyone else in the same boat?

Probably need to check your spam folder, or maybe you just missed the email. The year I won practice round tickets in the lottery I think I had to pay for them by mid-late summer.

I finally just said screw the lottery. I'm done begging for tickets.

I'm just frustrated that the website doesn't show any sort of status. I completely forgot about the lottery around mid-June when results were released. Pretty sure the e-mail went directly to spam and Gmail default is to delete spam after 30 days. I'll just assume I didn't get selected.

Never been to Augusta, just can't make myself pay a scalper that much. Really want to go though.

Everybody should see it once. It's one of the few places you'll ever see that is truly as incredible as everybody says it is.

Agree. I haven't been in a few years, but it always amazed me at the civility of the patrons. Parking a chair by the 18th green and actually finding it there many hours later is pretty cool.

Played since I was 5, played AJGA, high school, and college and truly love the game and it's history. Attended Golf Academy of America Myrtle Beach in 2010 and wanted to make a career out of either playing or teaching golf. Had an opportunity to go with an instructor that year when Phil won but I hurt my back. Been to many tournaments and iconic courses but this one is driving me crazy I want to go so bad.
