'18 TN OL/DL Cade Mays (Transfer)

If it makes you all feel any better, he has been getting a lot of heat privately from current players and recruits that aren't happy he hasn't okayed at least a visit. Its helping with his decision to not go to UT, but its been a consistent message from everyone that his attitude now wouldnt fit with where the players want to be.

Guarantee Rogers and Higgins are in his hear badmouthing the Vols at every turn. He is supposedly friends with them.

Whatever happens, happens. Would like for him to be in this class, but I'm not holding my breath. Time to move on.

Then he needs to go feel warm and cozy with Rogers and Higgins. If he's getting flak from current Vols and recruits, then maybe there's a reason?

I can't feel bad for him as he dismissed his own principals. It's his choice and I couldn't care less about where he goes at the end of the day but when you have a long term equity in one principal and then don't follow it yourself, you get heat. It is what it is.

PS- I have no earthly idea what Mays is thinking.

I would say at this point there may be an issue of having to eat words. He's probably said he would never sign with UT... and would have to back track quite a bit before even considering it.

I feel comfortable that UT's new staff plus Fulmer will give the Vols their best possible chance of bringing him back into the fold. If they can't... then there's nothing to complain about.

PS- If you are one of those who argued that Jones only needed "more time"... here's an example of why you were wrong. He underperformed his roster the first two years. Many were willing to chalk that up to the roster and system implementation. But the evidence of poor coaching and player development only got worse over the next 3 years. As predicted 5 years ago, recruits took notice and stopped listening to Jones. Some shut UT down completely.

Whether Dooley, Jones, Pruitt, or someone else... YOU CANNOT "give them more time". A new coach has a 3-4 year window to prove they can win big. If they don't, recruits turn to those who do and to the next "new kid in town".

Unfortunately this is going exactly as I was told it would. I was told he would not take an in home visit because he doesn’t like Pruitt and isnt coming to Tn

I'm taking a huge positive out of getting this info. The team, and current commits have an attitude of doing the hard work and following the all in messaging. JG and Smith won't take anything less. A lot of confidence is surrounding the team right now.

He really doesn't. Its all going back to attitude. Pruitt expects the work, and I've heard Cade has developed an attitude problem since his decommit. He's being told how special he is, and Pruitt doesn't play that game like butch did.

This confirms the opinion I've developed of Cade from reading about him on here and his play, etc. He seems a bit high strung, stubborn and moody. Also, again it seems, his feelings get hurt real easy. Your post and him seeming to be unwilling to even talk to Pruitt and Fulmer (of all people) just seals it for me. I hope I'm wrong!

If true though, he better check that attitude real fast or life will get more and more frustrating for him..

That said, I wish the guy the absolute best for his future..

The fact that's Pruitt is offering JUCO OL and a grad transfer that didn't play this yr tells you:
1) he knows he's in trouble on the OL
2) Cade Mays isn't coming.

Time to piss on the fire and call the dogs here, guys. This Hunt is over.

Said that a week ago. It's not happening.

Trey Smith was a good get but the last 5* lineman we fretted over about going elsewhere was Drew Richmond. Just let him go to Clemson where he'll be irrelevant.

Their booster club is called IPTAY and they funnel money through some church in the Clemson area in the form of “donations”. The church then gives it to the players. Wish the NCAA didn’t exist so we could just pay these guys the money they deserve up front

New-Spring Church

I have noticed his lack of foot speed more than a few times. He can be a All American interior lineman but I don't see elite SEC LT talent in him.

All that being said I really really want Cade to stay home. He plays mean and is as strong as a ox.
What do you think of a try on D_line?

I'm over Cade Mays. He needs to just go already. Glad he's an EE. Don't really care any more. I choose to celebrate the ones that really bleed orange and want to be here. IF he thinks the VOLS aren't good enough for him he can GTFO.

I hope these guys do pick it up but confidence right now is simply talk. The test of Confidence is when its the fourth qtr vs Florida and you've got to make plays on offense and get stops on defense. No one will know if they have "confidence" until September comes.

I hope this is true, and I think this is the only thing that will get us back to the top. They are going to have to stop being babies, and put in the work.

I don't have ANY inside info, but the results are plain to see. They have been slacking and it is obvious. We don't need any "5 star" players that aren't willing to put in the time and effort it takes to be champions. Those are the cancers that have gotten us to this point.

If he’s not coming to Tennessee regardless then I’m cool not letting us in home. Cade made a decision he felt best for himself and didn’t play Tennessee during any part of the process.

He loved Tennessee but his decision to look elsewhere imo really was that. He found a place that he feels most confident continuing his career with and doesn’t want to lead UT coaches or fans on in any way. He is not Vonn Bell.

You need to take some time off and reset. You have become unrealistically pessimistic.

1) "In trouble" is subjective. Jones didn't do UT any favors on the OL in 5 years. People hated on Dooley for his lack of OL recruiting... but Jones basically used scholarships. Dooley left an NFL caliber OL... not much depth but a head start. Whether Jones recruited good players or not or just stank up development remains to be seen.

Chance Hall if health and Smith are the only two returning players that we know are SEC caliber. Even if Mays signs, UT needs depth in the middle. Going after guys with some development and especially the Cal transfer just makes a ton of sense.

2) See above. You've associated two things that aren't necessarily associated then drawn a conclusion based on that association. UT needs more than one or two guys on the inside. Getting as many of these 3 plus some is important.

BUT... you also have to consider that Pruitt's S&C direction will be different than Jones' was. I suspect they'll be asked to carry more bulk into the season and the strength that comes with it. I also suspect that "pace" on O will be a matter of OL rotation if necessary rather than a sacrifice of power.

Most importantly though... I don't expect a real football coach to use the "techniques" that Jones tried (and failed) to teach UT's OL for 5 years. I expect them to go back to basics and give the OL's more opportunities to be aggressive. If you think Smith was nasty this past year... imagine if they really design the O so he can attack without hesitation.

Well, thanks for the diagnosis but I'm fine, a realist, but Im fine.

Hall probably isn't coming back next yr if ever. Nothing has been formally announced but even Matthews is now alluding to the fact "if hall comes back." Maybe he wants to time to think about everything but I doubt he'd be ready for Sept even if hes had surgery. As of early Nov, he hadn't.

Maybe miracles can happen in the weight room but it will take miracles for Johnson, Tatum and Locklear to be ready to dominate in SEC next season. Too bad Tatum and Locklear didn't get the luxury of a redshirt as both could have used it.
