I've been very clear with where my brain is on this whole set of shenanigans. I compartmentalize, to allow one side to go as deep as can go, where my other side stays solidly on the balance of hope and skepticism. (the latter brain gets to drive).
There is a solid medium between your hypothetical scenarios. I wrote it all out once, and I'm not going to do it again. MrMax publishes it frequently in the Gruden thread guide.
I do believe that there were a handful of power players who wanted to influence this coaching search. I believe the knowledge and information used to influence public opinion has evolved significantly since 2012, and to a larger extent 2008. I do believe that this was being leveraged by someone, for some purpose.
Like it or not, what happened with Schiano was powerful. Beaver played his part in that. Others did too. And it was all possible because the consumers refused to accept something so far beneath their expectations.
That was the Beaver's stated purpose, and I believe he accomplished his mission.
