Official Jon Gruden Thread XLIX

Cool your jets.
This room is devolved into a lot of negativity and arguing, and people are saying that something is an absolute done deal, when it seems that absolutely no one else outside of this message board seems to believe so.
At least with talking about Jon Gruden, we were all really positive when we spoke about him!
So I Googled two words, 'Pruitt', and 'Tennessee'. This is what came up,
pruitt Tennessee - Google Search

so everybody cool down and don't believe anybody who says anything is absolutely happening at any point in time. Chris Low's tweet says that Phil Fulmer is *still doing an interview* with Jeremy Pruitt today...an interview! Which means that there probably won't be an announcement today, and as I've commented previously, the longer that we don't have an announcement, the more positively I'm going to think about who we're going to roll out as our head coach.

I know that I view this job as one of the best in the country, but I'm truly for the first time wondering if these other coaches from around the country do. Like others have said, it's hard to swallow we can't get a proven head coach to take this job. I just hope whomever is hired that it works out in the long run or our beloved football team may never recover.

Where are our insiders on the booster side, how did this get sideways? How do we go from paying Gruden 10,000,000 a year to paying Pruitt 4,000,000, If we are going the coordinator route PF would do better to get a Tennessee guy, if Pruitt is the hire it is not a great hire that will have a long leash with the fans, it doesn't make sense. Fans do not want unproven!

Well, either we went after Gruden, or we didn't.

The "offer" to Pruitt falls in line with the last few hires so makes to reasoning easier to say we are what we are, and this is what we are, a 4mill/year ceiling coach.

Nothing makes sense, except, for maybe, the narrative is they really don't care about the fans, the hiring of Fulmer calmed the masses, and the masses, well, they are pretty easily satisfied and will continue supporting an average to less than average to mediocre football program.

Rewatched the "Come Together" video, thought of Pruitt as our next coach, then almost vomited.

After the Currie mess if you're still listening to Beav or other posters that are trolling the fan base it's your own fault. It's my belief that Gruden was never at any time during the last 24 days a realistic candidate for our coaching vacancy.

Wrong

CPF has limited options. My guess is he is looking at this as a rebuilding the brand and is more concerned about the future than the immediate satisfaction of a splash hire. Defense and recruiting is what will fix this is what Phillip is thinking. Opinion only.

woke up this morning and feel like hell, may have a touch of the Gru, wife had it last week and may have caught it from her. Should've taken the Gru shot this year!

This is the way it seems, Fulmer to quiet the fans, but I'm not sure the fans are still willing to blindly follow just anyone the university trots out to the podium. If you are Fulmer how do you give this guy more than a three year deal?

I was hoping for a championship level hire this time around, My time is running short to hope for any championships from UT. Been following this program since '65......will be 74 in less than a month. Some of us don't have the time to wait much longer.

I totally understand and agree 100%

I’d be fine with that, along with Tee/Steele. Or even Cooter. Cooter come home. I want me some Cooter.

Not a vote for or against him, but just saying the rumor was a DC that no one is focused on. Fulmer and Rodgers both in NY. I don't understand why Brent Venables hasn't been interviewed. If your talking top DC's he should be included.

Totally off-topic, but after this is all over, I wonder if freak would let us have boards dedicated to Vols in other areas outside of Tennessee so those of us who don’t have Facebook can find other vol fans in our respective areas.

They have been rebuilding the brand for 10 years, the future is now. Fulmer can't afford a bad hire.

I think the "fans" have been quelled and they could trot out, well, I don't know, but a less than stellar hire and it would be business as usual.

People just want this to be over, and ultimately, will continue to go to games and spend money because they love UT and UT football. Simple. And, I think the admin knows it.

It's one thing if the guy doesn't want to coach, but to troll a wounded fanbase is low.

IMO, I don't think he was purposely trying to troll anyone. The "never say never to nothin'" comment wasn't isolated to UT as many on here took it. It was about coaching in general.

As far as liking Rocky Top. I'm sure he does like the song.

Anyway, it's been fun.
