"past his prime"? starting from most recent Les Miles went
9-3
8-5
10-3
10-3
13-1
11-2
in his last completed 6 years.
only one is on par with the level we reached in the east when it was down while he is getting those records when the West is elite. what in the bloody hell are you talking about "past his prime" when his last full season is better than we've had in 10+ years and 4 out of 6 are in double digit wins?
Hyams said we had interviewed a bunch of people today why is everyone slitting your wrists. If we've learned anything this last two weeks its not to believe the rumors.
So, because Steele got a 2nd interview and his name (among others) is consistently mentioned by Hubbs, he's going to be the new coach?
Let the thing play out. There are more coaches who have received more than one interview.
At any rate, it's good to know that VN hasn't lost its sense of overreaction or of a good meltdown.
No big time coaches wanted the job. Yes there was the Leach talk but that would have required us to have John Currie leading the AD and I would rather have Fulmer doing that. Currie was an arrogant a$$ and Im not totally sold he would have gotten leach. Why did he wait so long to call him? Why does the legend Bill Snyder despise him? Why did he run off frank Martin? Sure Currie may have brought Leach in but Leach May have quickly grown to hate him just like every other coach that has had to deal with Currie.
Tee is far more than a consolation. Hes one of if not the best recruiter in the country. Steele is 60 years old. Maybe he coaches for 5 years and Tee takes over once hes experienced. I think that could actually work out really well.
Steeles record at Baylor doesnt mean too much to me. Tennessee is a different caliber of job where he can hire ace staff members and recruit really well. But hes going to have to be allowed to prove he can do that. If the fans dont support him then he will definitely fail. Im willing to trust Fulmer and his hire and give it a couple years. BUT thats all contingent on the staff he surrounds himself with.
I warned you guys about this. They were never going to make a big hire. They don't give a **** about winning. All they care about is raking in the money. They know Tennessee fans will throw money at the program no matter what. The only way to make serious change over there is to quit sending your money. I will not spend another dime on UT football until I see them care about it as much as I do.
I'm not upset because I knew what was coming.
For what it's worth, I think we've earned the right to melt down. Almost everything bad that can happen to a football program has happened to Tennessee over the last 10 years.
But I will admit that I thought 2008-2013 had proved I could endure anything as a fan, and it turned out I was wrong.
We need to place our faith in Fulmer. NO ONE cares about this program more than Fulmer. Nobody on this site has put the time, effort, blood, sweat, tears, and anything else worth sacrificing on the line for this program like Fulmer has.
I have complete trust and faith in him to craft a vision and solution for the program. I'm ready to support any staff.
Well. At least if its Steele I get my life back. No more checking message boards in the winter for scraps of info on the team for me. I will just check in for the first half of each game this fall and gauge my interest level from there.
Will always be a Vol, but man these underwhelming hires will have to win me over on the field and not from the podium going forward.
We are on the level of Vandy and Kentucky right now in many coaches eyes. I hate it, you hate it, we all hate it but thats unfortunately where we are after this past decade. We can flash all the money around we want but things havent been attractive on the hill in a long time.
Fulmer should have been the AD from the beginning. This never would have happened. Fulmer had to come in and work with a brand that was even more tarnished and decided that he thought it was best to turn to someone that hes comfortable with in Steele.
I hate the hire if Steele cant bring tee home but if he can? Boom. Thats a home run for us. Steele is 60 years old. Probably on the verge of retirement. He will bring stability while Tee prepares himself to be HC. Whats wrong with that? We need that kind of stability and if thats how it plays out Ill be willing to support it.
If you dont want to thats fine. However, I recommend you look up the marshmallow experiment. This hire (if Tee is brought home). Is going to be like that. Short term wait for long term gains.
