"After much deliberation, gathering facts, I have made my decision.. and I am firmly BACK IN on Jon Gruden as our next HC. "

...seriously, who dis?

It would be rare that a 7-6 team won a power 5 conference.

This playoff is not perfect but with the BCS system, one team was usually a no brainer and the number two team was usually a controversy. Now we usually have three teams that aren't disputed and the 4th team is a controversy. I'd call that major improvement.

How's that improvement? You just moved the cutoff further down, and, inherently, opened the door for more teams to say, "What about us?". Generally speaking, and under most all circumstances of any given season, three teams have a legitimate argument for a 2-team selection. With a 4-team selection, as many as 7-8 teams can and will make the argument (6 teams did the first year and 7 teams this year).

Simply put, agree to disagree. Your views on this subject will not change mine, just as mine will not change yours.

I got a text back from Chad:

"no word yet"

I'm still waiting...
bad dream on my part but first thing I thought of was "Oh hell, Chad is Hyams middle name"....bad, bad dream, wake me up when JG is @ podium

Fulmer: We're putting the band back together.

Gruden: Forget it. No way.

Fulmer: We're on a mission from God.

I don’t expect to hear an announcement until Thursday or Friday if we don’t have one today. Coach will be tangled up in New York for the College Football HOF with Peyton.

Jimbo Fisher at A&M presser: "You can have Vince Lombardi, Tom Landry or Chuck Noll as your head coach, but if your administration does't see things in the way you see things, and allow you to do things that way, nothing can be achieved. There is a oneness to everything you do to be successful."

THIS is why UT has been unsuccessful since 2003 (the year Mike Hamilton took over as AD). The AD and the coach have not been on the same page. (Hamilton was a Clemson grad, followed Hart, a Bama grad, followed by Currie, a Wake Forrest grad). Now, we have an AD that understands what support a HC needs and knows what it means to be a Tennessee Volunteer.

If we had not fought them off you would of had Schiano.

From a pure coaching standpoint, he may have been a better choice.

I would just like to see somebody at UT aim high for once...instead of always going for the closing time option.

Having 75% of the selections correct vs having 50% of the selections correct is improvement in my mind.

I would however like to see a 6 to 8 team playoff with power 5 conference champs automatically in.

Bruce Feldman is reporting Venables and Morris.

Two names to keep in mind as the #Tennessee coaching has re-set: #Clemson DC Brent Venables & #SMU head coach Chad Morris. Folks close to Phil Fulmer are big believers in them.

I believe a fair amount of this information being reported is controlled leaks for a reason ...

8 teams, 5 conf champs, 2 wild card and top ranked non power 5, imo.

I am still all in on Gruden, but he needs to make up his mind quickly. We need somebody that really wants to be here, so he needs to $#!+ or get off the pot if this is going to happen.

If we don’t get him, I’m good with a Miles + Tee combo. I trust Fulmer’s pride & love for his school enough to know that he’ll pick the best coach(es) for the job.

We haven't had a coach that you could put in the same sentence with Lombardi, Noll or Landry to test your theory.

I'll believe it's Gruden when he is at podium. If a coach like Gruden was being considered then there would be so many leaks happening.

The man is not a good coach and character matters.

And you know what? Everything else aside, Gruden HAS been wooed, like no other coaching candidate ever has in history. He's been offered absolutely unprecedented combinations of control and money to coach at Tennessee.

Revoke my Gruden Card if you want, but if he wants to be "wooed" MORE than what we've laid out for him up to now, he is crazier than Mike Leach and Les Miles combined, and we don't need him near our program.

I think today is Decision Day for Jon Gruden.

You think today with MNF?

:thud:

This has been over stated, and I wish people would stop bringing it up -- Phil has IMPORTANT STUFF to handle now, plans change. If he has to miss it, he'll miss it -- Peyton will understand. LOL

It's a verified fact that Brent Hubbs was at the airport waiting on a plane to arrive back in Gruden 36, right? I mean, is he pretending like he wasn't there on someone else's periscope looking like a 5 year old peeking out his window late at night on Christmas Eve?

Assuming the above is true, I don't think Hubbs should be looking down on anyone asking him any questions about Jon Gruden.
