Official Jon Gruden Thread XLVIII

okay, so i woke up at 4:42 to go to the bathroom.

i had been dreaming that i was in this thread, and it was absolutely blowing up with news that we were, in fact, no kidding, for real, hiring jon gruden. it was surreal. we were all elated and didn't know how to act. we were just blown away. we've believed it would happen, but it was, and it was sooo good, it was still hard to believe.

so i stood there, taking care of my business, and i thought ...

"You take the blue pill, the story ends. You wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes."

i still can't make up my mind which pill to take.
do i have to decide now, or can i wait until we officially hire a coach?

HOLD UP!!!

Does anyone else think it’s weird that Swain and Ainge both are out “sick” today..? Two VFL’s who are close to Fulmer and have shown interest in being involved in the program... Hmm.

giphy.gif

I thought I was interesting also. Obviously they aren’t being looked at as coaches. Wondering if they know something and don’t want accidentally give something away.

So no one of substance is mentioning Gruden's name as a possibility. No meeting yesterday. My faith is waning.

Well, it’s not like anyone of substance has mentioned Gruden much anyway, other than to mock, so I can’t take that as an indicator.

I hate to say this but we are a little late to have our choice of coaches. The top tier choices are taken....some have already signed extensions. Currie screwed us!

Tee is not ready to be a HC.....and while I have much respect for him I am not sure he is ready to be a OC in the SEC and I believe we could do better.

Miles record speaks for itself...if we cant get Gruden
I think he is the best hire.

If I could chose it would be Kiffin or Miles if we cant get Gruden. PF will not hire Kiffin though. I hope Kiffin does not end up in the SEC.

After that we have asst coaches to chose from.
Not comfortable with Steele as HC.

If it was not for the new early signing period for recruits
we could look at the NFL.

We just dont have alot of choices.

Grumors from Sunday evening:

- Fulmer in Atlanta then Cinn
- Meeting in Cinn - Gruden, Fulmer and key Boosters
- Meeting COMPLETE
- Fulmer etal leaving Cinn
- Gruden dinner with friends at 6pm
- "dad says we are good to go"

My conclusion: Goodnight MNF, hello Knoxville

Jonathan?

Well
... And the gruden train is a Rollin.

I think Fulmer is going to really disappoint with this hire. I think Davenport really only brought in Phil to subdue the anarchy of this fanbase.

I hope I am completely wrong but I don’t have a good feeling about Bev and Phil.

I know, I know... I’ll stfu and see myself out until I come back to my senses.

If Phil flubs this hire, it's gonna fall on her because the fan narrative and local (not state ran) media will be that haslam and bev tied his hands and wouldn't let him land a big one.

This is my first post so y’all don’t know me but I’ve been on this thread for well over a month and the site for about a year so, I feel like I know some of you. I had major log in problems and finally got access this morning. Thanks Freak for sorting it out.
I just wanted to say a few things (had to store it all up):

GrandVol your morning posts are epic. I look forward to them every day.

Atlanta Vol (if you are still around and reading), I was really touched by your generous action with the tickets. It’s not something I would have been eligible for but it made me swell with pride knowing there are people like you out there.

Beaver, I love your passion. No idea if your info is accurate or not, but it’s been entertaining for sure.
I know a few people (not going to call them all out here) that have expressed family illness and loss. For what it’s worth, I felt compelled to pray for you each time a read such a post.

Mrmax86, thanks for keeping it all sorted out with the daily post.

Dudleys87, jakez4ut, NickZ4UT, VolInNorthCack and others: I hate I missed out on all the Charlotte chatter. I wanted to chime in several times. I live very very close to OMB. I hope to run into you soon.

So much I’ve wanted to say over the past few months and people I want to (positively) call out, but I will keep this semi-short and look forward to contributing in the future.

Lastly, Gruden until it’s not. Soon!

:hi:

Kiffin probably won't come back because nobody spells his name right.

Well, its morning time and I told you all I would come in and report.

I have nothing to report yet. I'm still in the same boat as last night. Left it as "everything went well". Still waiting to get something of substance to tell you guys, as soon as I do, you will be the second to know. Ill tell my wife first.

Also, I sent a text to Clifton. Lets see what he says. He was with Fulmer this weekend.

Are we at an accord

Hawk,

Trying to recalibrate my Grudemeter this morning. The pic from Ruby's last night, was there someone in that pic with Gruden that made your Grudemeter go up? (like potential coaching staff?)

pretty much agree.

i'll jus say this about Tee, because i agree with everyone that points out the limitations on him...they're real.....

but...what if he turns out to be great? even if it's only in a OC position right now under a les miles...what if Tee is great? think about how that might look, and is it not worth taking the same chance on bringing him in, as it is to pass on him because he might not be? under the circumstances, if you can get Miles for 2-3 years, and turn it over to Tee...may be best case.

just sayin'....continue to grude....carry on.

Kiffin probably won't come back because the Dolphins, Bengals, Giants, Colts, Broncos and Bucs are probably looking for a new OC after the season. And Cleveland will need a new HC and OC. I think he makes the jump to NFL OC.

My BVS kicked in last night (Battered Vol Syndrome for clarification).
PREFACE: I am a huge fan of CPF. Though I admit in my spoiled younger days, I was critical of him and on board with a change. Looking back, it has been the single most destructive thing UT athletics has done in my lifetime.

With that said, rumors were always around suggesting CPF would never hire anyone he felt could take his job. Maybe that's a bit of paranoia considering how he ended up with the job (if you choose to believe the back stabbing stories). I guess there's a grain of truth to every story. Anyhow, if you are incline to believe the rumors then the question that hit me was: Will CPF hire a good/not great coach? Will he hire someone who will have some success but not outshine his legacy here? I use Saban and Bear Bryant as an example. Did Bryant, Jr. Bring in sub par coaches so nobody took his dad's place in history? Again, after the decade we have all had as fans, I can't help but have negativity creep in from time to time.

Sportscenter just announced Herm Edwards to ASU, but they literally were calling him "Edwards" and didn't say a word about their friend and co-worker of 10+ years just landed a job.

Clearly ESPN is ****ting on us getting Gruden in a similar fashion. They don't like losing the employees they didn't want to lay off.

From someone on TOS - don't know the poster so take FWIW:
"Negotiations with Gruden tonight. Possibly a farewell tomorrow on MNF. Official announcement Tuesday. Boosters ready to commit an additional $180 million to football/athletics.

If Gruden falls through, then the following will be pursued:

Miles
Fuente
Patterson
Peterson

Tee Martin will be a definite if Gruden or Miles are hired. Steele has gone from being a definite to high maybe"

Tifwiw, but lowly AD asst says Fuente, Petersen not at all interested. Sad

I was just being a smarta$$... Happy for him to stay where he is or jump to NFL. Don't hold any grudge against him, just don't want him back. Too many sideshow issues...

Someone on here said that Tee doesn't call the plays at USC. Does anyone know if this is true?
