Official Jon Gruden Thread XLVII

Defamation seems waaaay unlikely. I mean, the University never said anything about Schiano — just the media and the fans. The investigation details are public record. And what’s he going to do, sue the fans? Haha. Good luck on collecting.

I’m guessing the university settles with him over the MOU, even though it wasn’t fully-executed. It’s a detrimental reliance issue. We could probably win the lawsuit, but would just be ugly ... easier for both sides to settle and put this thing to bed.

Thanks for clarifying, and agree, put this behind us ...

Have their been any updates on the recruitment of Doyle Hargraves? I read yesterday he was high on Miami but not sure now... anything from VQ or RTI or AA weekly?

Heard he may be jumping on the Clemson bandwagon after last night? It was all over 247.

If the selection committee picks these top 4 (???), we could have an all SEC NC game

UT fans -- all of us -- changed how athletic departments view coaching searches moving forward. The power of social media has been exposed.

If you don't have a finger on the pulse of your fans, you will pay dearly.

I think this is related to why a lot of mainstream media has railed against us, besides the usual sensationalism. We no longer need them as middle men and that threatens the status quo $$$$

Found the article from a few weeks ago.

It was a private foundation that bought the house from the Sabans (while allowing them to continue to live in it for the rest of their lives, even beyond retirement if they wish).

The foundation paid off the taxes owed this year by the Sabans, but will not have to pay any property taxes in the future, as they are a non-profit organization.

So it seems from that article iamadoc was closest to right: sounds like boosters are behind the organization.

Nick Saban sold home to Crimson Tide Foundation for $3.1 million in 2013 | AL.com

This sounds like tax evasion and money laundering.

Miami fans getting a taste of what drove UGa fans crazy for years.

I swear, when it comes to this coaching search I'm beginning to feel like Marcel in Jerry Clowers 'coon hunting story.......

One night Jerry and Marcel were out with their dogs when they treed a coon up a huge sycamore. Marcel, a firm believer in giving a coon a fighting chance, climbed the tree to shake the coon out. But it wasn't a coon, it was a lynx, and it went after Marcel something terrible. The tree was a-shakin' and a-quiverin' from the battle. Marcel was getting torn up. Finally, desperate, he hollered down at Jerry, "Shoot, shoot, this thang is killin' me." Jerry hollered back, "I'm afraid to shoot, I might hit you". Marcel hollered back down, "Just shoot up here amongst us, one of us has got to have some relief."

I can't imagine an announcement coming after Wednesday. The last day of classes is Tuesday with Wednesday being a study day. Finals start Thursday; surely UT wouldn't want that disrupted with team meetings and the chaos that comes with an announcement.

Still a lot of speculation on the Doyle front but nothing solid since the last update.

By two of our yearly rivals. And here we are squandering praying that Fulmer Lands the Whale big enough to squash these sharks on our schedule.

When it gets planting time, consider Herbstreit's mouth as a tilling attachment. Conveniently would double as a fertilizer spreader. :good!:

I like it!!! Sounds like a plan...he is only about a hour north of me ( Nashville). Will post pics so it can be verified

BTW, David, universities often have on-campus housing for staff and faculty, the chancellor, deans, etc. Not to mention students. And I think all of that is "official university business." So not sure why a house provided for the head coach wouldn't be the same.

In fact, when I was at West Point in the age of the dinosaurs, I remember our head coach having a house right on post, just across a lake (Lusk Reservoir) from Michie Stadium. And that was military property. If it can be done there, as "official business," it can be done anywhere. :)

You're absolutely right, all official business :) My point is that just because a property is owned by a non-profit university doesn't automatically exempt it from taxes. As a former CFO of a small private college, I did battle on a regular basis with the gubment on this issue

Back on topic: GRUDEN TO THE HILL!!

100% agree MaTaLa, they're skeered of us costing them $$$$

I have a text thread with childhood friends who are all die hard Vols... my brother added one of his best friends from childhood (they reconnected about 5 months ago) to our thread last Saturday... He lives in Knoxville and has known Brice for a while, playing in a basketball league with him... so he talks to Brice and then tells us... I summarized what boro and Rocky shared tonight in our thread and he sent it to him.. he replied back with those emojis...

I guess I'm missing something in all of this. Am I right in assuming that Fulmer wants our program to have a big Vol presence in the staff? Supposedly Gruden has already been working on that behind the curtain.

I doubt either Petersen or Patterson would do that. I'm sure they would want to fill their staff with coaches that they trust. What's your thought on this?
