FWIW one of the mods on TOS said last night the only 2 coaches Cade Mays would talk to from UT are Gruden and Miles. Siap

Then hire one dem’ fellers...

Though seriously, I know he’s a super talent but I don’t think we should hinge the hire on one kid. Gruden FOR SURE...

Miles? Only if there’s a killer staff and a plan for him to ride off into the sunset.

Gruden til it’s not.

But....

I’m confused about the Miles naysayers. His WORST record was 8-5 from 2005-2015, and he has seven seasons of 10+ wins.

First choice? Definitely not. But I would 100% support this hire.

I thought Gruden bought Haslam's house? Was that BS? Did Gruden buy a house in Knoxville?

Nothing ever was show that house was bought, or not.

I even thought the house might have been a "signing bonus" if it were bought, so, maybe the house is coming!

As soon as there is an agreement, if there is an agreement, it needs to be announced immediately. Until this morning, I thought it would be best if it waited until after MNF game, not the MNF season.

I thought if it were to be announced on a Sunday, it would still be new enough to distract attention away from the game, an NFL game. The NFL isn't what it used to be, but its still a pretty big business.

Anyway, blah blah blah, I had an opinion and I changed my mind.
This and we could blame it on the hillbillies' lack of respect for elite society and proper manners.:)

The first thought that comes to mind, emails of support from the fan base to Bev, Pres, and Fulmer. Haslam should be loud and noisy and in the public eye as much as possible, including twitter.

As usual, I’m a few minutes behind but if I’m understanding you and Mink. Emails of encouragement to Bev & Phil and...

Social media warfare at Pilot/FlyingJ/Browns!?!

I think I like it.

I THOUGHT I remembered Mays saying after the championship game Friday night, after naming his top 3 teams and we weren't one, that he was also asked "what about UT" and he said something to the effect of 'depends on who the coach is' ... he's not out, not yet

I was on board in 2012 and it is Gruden till it aint for me, but if we hire Les thats a home run considering Dooley, Jones, and the names that were close to being hired this go around. At least he can win in the SEC knows how to play smash mouth football, and knows how to win a natty. Just my opinion.

I’m all Gruden! My only concern with Miles is he did have a great record but my god he was in Louisiana. Talent is deep there. He’s have to have an amazing staff surround him IMO

I don't understand why EVERYTHING has to be a smoke screen. No other universities do that when they are hiring a new coach. Why would we? Makes ZERO sense

It's very simple. It's not a smokescreen. Any AD worth their salt can and should interview multiple candidates and not lock onto just one. If Fulmer is doing his due diligence, he will be interviewing multiple candidates and at least getting a verbal "sure, I like this" before proceeding to at least a couple more.

By not having a couple in your pocket in case your number one falls through, we end up with what just happened with Currie where he jetted around the country randomly talking to damn near everyone that was a head coach.

It's called "back up plans" not a smokescreen.

Let the fraud case against Haslam shake out. He’s doing a pretty good job of putting gas on his own fire. The university will not let his name stay on buildings if his image is tarnished.

I thought he just bought his way out of it. I think I read something like he paid 94m to make it go away.....I could be totally wrong

EDIT: Forget I said this.....reread the reports......sorry

Thought Mr. Anderson is head of the athletics committee- that would put him smack dab in the middle of this.
Seems I saw a list of committees here at one point.

He said Egren didn't have as much interest in this as some people claim.

I just want to know more.

How much interest does he have? How much interest do I think he has. How much interest do you think he has? Is his "known" interest just financial? How much money is he willing to throw in?

I see your reasoning! To be honest, I hadn’t given the NFL a thought. We stopped watching it. True, they have enough of a black eye right now and it would take focus off the game. But IF we hire Gruden, it will definitely need to be announced soon to keep the Haslams from undermining and sabotaging the deal.

I really don’t know that there will be a good time to announce should it happen. The optics aren’t great.

I think Phil is doing his due diligence. Just like Gruden, a lot of fans were/are on the Les Miles train, and I believe Les is interested too. Out of respect and to explore every option, I am glad they are reaching out to him. Not my number one choice, but for me, he is in the top five for sure.
